Painted the engine today. The prep work was worth it. The valve covers will be coming off and getting stripped, then re-sprayed. Here's a few before and after.

Thanks guys. We're hoping to have it in very soon. Going to clean up the trans tomorrow, install the timing cover, pickup tube, and pan gasket. Then it gets fun. :)

Looks great! I can't wait until mine is at that point, I'm currently doing the oil mods on my 70 block.

Thanks guys. The valve covers have been stripped and repainted. They looks great now!!! I painted the exhaust manifolds with POR-15 Manifold Gray. They are curing for the next 24 hours. The goal is to have the engine in tomorrow. Just need to clean up the engine bay a little bit more, and button up a couple of little things and then we should be good to go.

Yeah, we did a couple of the oil mods (larger pickup tube, drilled out the oil passage in the block and timing cover). We also installed the TA cam bearings and booster plate (with new pump gears). We are sooooo close...I can almost smell the exhaust fumes :)

The prep is the most time consuming, but as you see, the results are worth it:D

What type of paint did you use? I'm looking for an exact paint match as well

Prep is key. Wax and grease remover, tape stuff, then self etching primer, then paint. It's a process. And yes, worth it.

Well boys, we didn't get it in yet. Fought the slinger and oil pan clearance for a while. Cleaned up the engine bay. Mounted the flexplate, starter, harness, balancer (and pulley), setup the new oil pump gears and booster plate (it was right at .003"), installed timing cover, water pump, pullies, and engine mounts. 2 trips to the auto parts store for sealer, wix oil filter, and new battery cable.

I'm beat. Maybe i'll try to get in tomorrow. We'll see how the beer tastes tonight.

The oil pump isn't setup correctly. I didn't read the directions carefully. Looks like I'm ordering a shim kit and will actually follow all of the steps in the instructions...
