So I made the noob mistake of using the metal gasket with my aluminum intake and iron heads. This was no doubt what this problem was slowly trying to tell me amongst other things.

Saw ta's writeup about reusing the vally pan and how to cut it and also some threads about finding the right composite gasket thickness to order. I still had a question though, When I put the end seals down and set the intake on am I leaving the intake sitting loose but lined up with bolts hand tight or am I torqueing the bolts down to guage the thickness needed?

I heard composite gaskets crush a bit so what kinda extra should I add to my reading once I have it?

"Not a mistake" X2 What do you think everybody was using back in the '60's when the B4B first came out and pretty much for 30 years until the advent of the composition gaskets? A little more sealer should have been used around the bolt areas when the intake was installed which would probably fix your oil leak. I don't know how a run of the mill PCV valve would pull much vacuum in an engine without a miracle of a sealing job and even then I doubt it. On an engine with miles on it I really doubt you'll get much. Though, I will have to look into it a little more.

If you plan on measuring for correct gasket thickness you would not use the end seals because all they will do is hold the intake up. If the block deck/heads have not been milled much then you can use the end seals when doing the final install. If there has been much machining then use a bead of RTV to replace the end seal.
