Figured my nailhead brethren could held with this... Currently setting up a triangulated 4 bar rear suspension to allow for later trans. No more torque tube! As a reference, I would love to know the center to center lengths of both upper and lower rear control arms are for Buick’s “big” cars. Anyone happen to have some off a car to measure?
Tom, the existing rear end is being converted to open with a ‘61 center section. Even if I put a rear end assembly from another source I would still be placing the 4 bar set up. And thus still would want to find out lengths. Not interested in Jag rear.
Hi, I will be doing a similar conversion on a 47 GMC and on that the rear has a pivot so you can't put a open rear center section. Swapping a 55 chevy axle as normal leaf spring mounts. Not that familiar with a full size Buick of that era but is there a pivot point or do the trailer/control arms achieve that in the design? Maybe post a few pictures. Regards,
I guess it pivots just behind the tailshaft of the original trans but is irrelevant to the next set up. The new upper and lower control arms will mimic the arrangement of a GM a body, g body, b body, etc.
At least install a panhard rod to control side to side movement even with a four link set-up as the four link will still have a tendency to move side to side.
If you are planning A body style triangulated 4 Link there is no need for a panhard rod. Sway bar is still a good idea though
