I'm going to be purchasing a car trailer in late spring. I want something that the buick fits on, and something Betsy will pull. Basic and cheaper good. I have no clue what I need though in terms of weight, length, etc etc. What is a good, basic first trailer? Thanks Joe

You should be able to buy a decent 18 foot trailer for $1800-2000. They sell for that around here. Be sure to buy 2 axle braking and a "C" channel trailer. It will be stronger and last longer. I have one of these since 98 and Im on the 4th set of tires I tow it everywhere haul anything. If you haul your car with the truck you have listed make sure you buy the weight distribution hitch and sway bar set up and a good class 5 frame mounted hitch.....That alone will make towing a breeze. gsdave finally bought his set up recently and now swears he wont tow without it. It will take the bounce out of the towing.

And lastly if you are ready to tow dont forget to buy a decent set of tie downs and always keep them in good working order. Your investment can be destroyed if safety isnt formost in your mind to begin with....

BTW I sell straps when your ready $115 to your door. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=94458&highlight=tie+straps

The truck has a huge hitch already with 3/4 ton rear springs. I have the torsion bars cranked up a couple turns, and heavy duty shocks all the way around. thats why I call it the 2/3 ton. I've towed cars before with U-haul trailers and it has pulled them very nice, and those trailers are just a 1 7/8" ball, no sway bars or anything. Only problem is the wee-oh-five. I'm good as long as there is no hills.:TU:

I would also get a trailer with ramps coming straight out the back. Makes loading and unloading a breeze.
My first trailer had the ramps stored in the side, which worked ok... unless you parked next to somebody at the track. I sure like the open pit style too like with my current trailer, Now I don't ever worry about draging the exhaust or anything when the car goes on and off.

I totally agree with Mike, the weight distribution bars are worth every penny.

Heres a picture if you can see the ramps, they are slid up in there.:Do No:

Hey Rob, Is that "Cool Cat"

I'll second what Rob says about the ramp coming straight out the back. Just slide em out and done. Whaen they are stored in the side you need to remove them and set them in place. Also I've seen these type come off the trailer while loading or unloading. Not safe at all.

If you are looking for a great affordable trailer in the northeast then look no further than Econotrailer..

We bought 2 24ft/18ft deck for 1649.00 each. Plus 60.00 for a spare tire. Right from the manufacturer in Claysburg, PA... This same trailer in CT is 2500-2700 bucks. It's worth the trip out to pick it up..

They have 4 wheel brakes and a breakaway kit. LED lights, 2 5/16" ball.:TU:

Bri-Mar is probably a step up from the Econotrailer. But you're gonna pay for it. :TU:
