I'm going to use the entry level Crane XR-1 contactless distributor conversion on my 401 rod project and asking for advice on coil selection. Was going to use an Accel Super Coil only because I have a couple spare and have one hooked up to my 1954 Roadmaster nailhead. It fires right up and runs good with points ignition. I also have a Bosch GT40R super sports coil but you can see the physical difference in the two. I wonder if size matters here ? The Accel is a good coil but it's big and bulky.
Something like this : https://www.summitracing.com/parts/...MI_9O-2d274gIVxLXACh3fSwWCEAQYAyABEgJ1XfD_BwE it will fit in the coil spot.
I expect the Accel is a old traditional design with the wire simply wrapped around a straight (open iron magnetic circuit) iron core. The Bosch obviously has a more modern closed iron magnetic circuit, assembled after winding. I would prefer the modern design, but best to read up on the recommended coils for your system. Bruce Roe
I have the Pertronix contactless Kit and a flame thrower coil on my 401", with direct 12v from the battery, and it works and has done at least a couple of years..
