Any help on positively Identifying this critter would be of great help.. I have emotionally identified it enough to fork the cash. but some serious documentation would be of comfort. Thanks again everyone.
Here's the only scan I have of some info I sold several years ago. This is the front cover of a press kit. The picture was in the press kit. Sorry I don't have more info!
Here is an interesting thing that you may consider to help with details if you need them. I don't have any info on 1 pce car let alone a 75 through 77 Century,so I wont be able to help out much. http://cgi.ebay.com/1975-INDIANAPOL...oryZ3878QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
All Pace Cars were a Century Custom Coupe 4D37 or Century 350 with a 350-J code V8, F41 HD suspension, PE2 Color Keyed Painted 14x7 Wheels with center cap and trim rings, Ext Color Code 11 With White interior possibly a code 176.....Bucket Seats In other words a Century 4D37 (w/WC5?).....VIN 4D37J5xxxxxxx or 4E37J5xxxxxxx with option DX4. This is all from memory........if any is correct :TU: If its incorrect........excuse my typing o No:
OK, pls decode #4H57J5H175233 She has the correct everything including the Int. White buckets and light blue side panels ect. Thanks Everyone.
4 Buick H Century Luxus 57 2 door coupe J 350/175 HP motor 5 1975 H Flint plant built 175233 sequential vehicle number
Thanks, For the break down.. But is it or is it not.? Luxus? No Luxus were ever Pace cars were they..
H = Century Custom There wasn't a Century Luxus for model year 1975 For model year 1973 and 1974 the H stood for Century Luxus, never trust those online VIN decoders....ou: And the HP rating for the J code model year 1975 350 4 barrel engine is 165 HP (175 for model year 1974)
I believe she's real.......... Like I said, mine is from memory............ Sorry the Century Custom Coupe was the 76 Pace Car. Tr 176 = Vinyl Buckets, white/blue or the Fisher Plate could have a 26 followed by a letter code, 26_, ( B,C,D,E,G or W ). 1975 a AH57 = Century Luxus, AD37 = Century 350 AH57 Luxus had formal 1/4 glass AD37 Had "Teardrop" 1/4 glass So yes the 75 Pace Car would have been a Century Luxus 350 :TU:
1975: AH57 = Century Custom 2 door coupe AD37 = Century 2 door coupe 1974: AH57 = Century Luxus 2 door coupe AD37 = Century 2 door coupe
Info I posted in this thread http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=127093 shows that 1811 were made. Found some more pics from that old Press Kit.
Hey nice find. If you want more info call Sloan Museum 810-237-3440. They decoded my Pacecar and sent me the build sheets Iceman :Smarty:
Hard to argue that point. I can't see where they did anything major to lose 5-10 hp as well.Guess thats what keeps us on our toes too..I am always finding out new info on things that are supposedly set in stone.Thats why I am doing my part to help.
Well, I can always try I always try to check at least two different sources before I put something online to help out fellow board members. Notice that in the scans you don't find the Luxus name for model year 1975: Standard catalog of Buick: The Buick - a complete history: Original 1975 Buick sales brochure: American car ID numbers 1970 - 1979 Encyclopedia of American cars
Wow, you guys are like buick gurus. So it's fair to say she's the real deal, NOw comes the hard part, wheres the closest show (SW Ont.) and how long do I have to get her ready... I've had No luck with decals.. Looks like they will have to be a one off deal.. Who on the board has one, we need good pics of the decals... Thanks a million for all th eeffort on this Newbies behalf. I knew this was th eplace to be. Scott
Maybe this tip to contact the Sloan museum is worth considering ? It's still possible that a previous owner wanted to make a Pace car clone out of a regular Century Custom. I reckon that the Sloan people can tell you by the production number if your car is the real McCoy or not:TU: Click banner :Comp:
