I've always been a big reader on this board, but this is my first time posting. As a pretty young guy, I've always enjoyed seeing the awesome stuff everyone on here has been up to. It has made me scrimp and save so I am at a place where I can begin to afford my dream car. I am planning to begin the Restoration/Restomod my 1972 GS 350 within the next year. I'm laying out the cash and planning the order in which I will need everything, but I have been having trouble locating a matching paint for the original Burgundy Mist. I absolutely love this color, but I know it is a tricky one to get right. Does anyone have advice on which paint would be the closest match? Most sources cross list it with "Black Cherry" for the Chevy cars. This is the closest match I have come across, but any help would be appreciated.
The paint code (78), and paint formula, was the same for Buick Burgundy Mist, Chevy Black Cherry, Oldsmobile Burgundy Mist, and Pontiac Burgundy. Which manufacturer best duplicates the shade with modern materials is the subject of some debate.
I'd have to trust Alain on this based on his recent 1970 Burgundy Mist GS455 restoration. That car came out beautiful!
Thank you Brian .Waiting for the 1971 Stage 1 .This car will be great after resto .The colors are perfect. Alain
