I am going to redo the buckets on my 72 GS. I want the best quality, not concerned about the price. I will also be replacing the seat foam and springs. And the seat backs. Also, I haven't done seats before, but I feel fairly comfortable trying. Or should I just buck up and pay some who really knows what they are doing! Thanks,
    Brian

Go with Legendary. They have a great product. Also supply almost everyone else.

I also have a set of Legendary-made bucket seat covers. I bought thru Year One though, when they were offering a 10 or 20% sale. You may be able to get a better price thru one of Legendary dealers like YO, as I found Legendary would not match the YO sale price. They need to support their dealers, so I could understand that. I haven't installed mine yet, but they look great.

Does anyone have the a 15% off Year One coupon they are not going to use? Thanks for the replys, I will check out Year One. Thanks,

I agree, legendary si the way to go. They usually have a 10% off sale aorund nov dec of each year but that is a ways off. Buckets aren't bad to do, I'd give it a shot by yourself. Just remember where everything goes (take pics if you have digital camera) and how it comes apart. Search for install tips here on board, some good advice...

I did the one sin my Stage 1 many years ago (I was like 22) and they turned out nice, still look good...

I think I will give it a shot! By the way Tim, the driver seat is still sporting that power seat track assy I bought from you a few years ago! Brian

    Brian,
You typically don't need springs unless the car has been flooded. All you need to do is check the existing ones out and replace any broken ones with replacement units which are available individually. I have done 5-6 sets now and only find a couple seats that had 1 broken bottom perimeter support spring.

    Right now, www.opgi.com
a Legendary dealer has a 15% off sale.

Expect covers to take 12-15 weeks. Legendary is so backed up with orders.
So, that means you won't get the covers until September.

I have an article on our site for bucket seat recovering:

Just spoke with them. Guess it's certain items. They also have a deal on free shipping on orders over $299. Of course, not free if it is oversize, special order or truck freight.
I think it's hit or miss with OPGI. Great prices, but they NAIL YOU on shipping and handling. I bought $40 worth of small parts and got charged over $20 in shipping. Total weight- 3 lbs. Box was big enough to fit a sport wheel in...
George, I agree! Can't beat that name.....
BTW, did you end up buying that GSX in your avatar? I have a fuzzy recollection on the story of that car...

George I think you got a lil confused.
Shipping is free on the items but does not include the "oversize" charge which typically runs from $12-18 per item. For example, if the shipping charge on a door panel is $15 and the oversize charge is $12.50, the $15 is waived.
I have dealt with them on all the cars I have done and their pricing is very competitive. As a frequent buyer, you also get customer reward points which add up to free merchandise. If you have some friends who need parts, you can combine orders and then after a little bit you can start getting discounts.

If you order seat covers, they typically run $250-300. It is very easy to break the $299 limit.

There are two GSX cars in the Southeast that are in the "waiting" phase.
Hmmmm, the one in my avatar is still "in process". The other one I know of needs a total resto and I am waiting on a "scout" to see what he finds out. A game of patience and timing is what it is all about. :TU:

I got my OPGI card in the mail the other day. I will check them out, I didn't know if they were a Legendary dealer. Thanks for the tip on the springs, George. I was thinking they could get weak. My car only has 113,000 miles on it and was owned by a little old man from new, I am the second owner. So at least it wasn't a heavyweight person! So I will skip the springs unless as you said, they are broken. Any other tips would be appreciated! I have read up some on it so I am not a total dummy! Since the seat backs I think are only in black, I will need to paint them white. Any suggestions on interior dyes and paints? Thanks, Brian

If you are going to convert from black to white, here is what you need to do. Get yourself SEM vinyl dyes. You will need to thoroughly clean the material with DuPont Prep-Sol or RM 901 Pre-Kleano. Let air dry. Now, use SEM Super White (technically not white, but off-white) and apply several light coats. Dries extremely fast. If you have pearl interior, you will need the pearl top coat. You can get SEM dye at any Sherwin Williams Auto Paint Store. Expect to pay about $8-9/can.

Here is the SEM site http://www.sem.ws/

Aha! SEM is what I amusing for redying my 280zx interior! I can order it thru my buddy's CarQuest store. I pay about 6$ a can with my discount. I have had some troubles with it, but you supplied me the answer I was looking for. I am sure my problems are all prep issues. Thanks, Brian

Not always the case though. I suggest digging for stock status info from both before ordering. Year One had my bucket seat covers in stock, last pair though. Legendary had NONE in stock, and no firm date for more production, but an 8-10 week "guess". I'm sure it varies from model to model, color to color, etc.

Thanks David. I will be checking all of their sites before ordering! Gotta love the web!

I shopped around and OPGI beat Year One hands down! OPGI was much cheaper on every item and I didn't even take off the 15% yet. OPGI's web site is better than Year One's also. Shows more detail on packages. I will be ordering tonight! Gotta fix my driver seat, it is splitting. Otherwise the original white interior is about perfect. Now I just need to get them done before the GS Nationals next month.

Brian, did OPGI state that they actually have them in stock available to ship? I haven't bought from them myself, but have heard/read a # of reports of supposedly stock items getting backordered, without informing the customer. Did they state if Legendary is the mfgr of theirs?

Every time I have ordered, the person would say in-stock or back-order.
If back-order, he would tell me estimated time for delivery. Never been let down!
