I wouldn’t use anything else but a roller cam with the exception of a stock rebuild. Just my .02

Just do research here and build it yourself.
Give the machineshop the right specs and you good to go.
It dont have to be a buick "specialist" the shop just need the right # to machine it right.

    500 with Buuck SB &AC . ?

    Boost ! Turbos or procharger!

NA? You better get $$ and dont tell mama cause she will not be happy ...lol

Shoot for 400hp and be happy with whatever it makes. Unported aluminu heads, sp3 intake an appox .550 lift 250advdur cam, 750/800cfm carb, at least 10:1 and headers will be very high 300s if not slightly over 400. roller cams are still way overpriced especially for a sbb. I've literally broken in flat tappet cams with no oil pressure before and the cam outlasted the rest of the engine. The fear behind flat tappets is unfounded.

    HOWEVER

If you are dead set on 500hp, you will WANT a roller, it will not be very street friendly, AC will be a challenge.

Build the same engine TA built with 10* less duration at .050" I/E and maybe 4* wider lobe center and your idle should be good enough to work with AC. You'll be making about 425 HP but won't have to get up to 6600 to make peak power or deal with the gears and high stall torque converter that would be necessary to utilize that kind of peak RPM HP. As mentioned get fat wallet out. I hate to say it but these are not LS engines, even with roller cams and aluminum heads. In the same ballpark maybe.

a 5.7 ls wont make those numbers n/a and be streetable. plus the torque side of things are going to be much lower than the buick. with 350 ci in a non race car and n/a 450 hp is the number to stay around. most 500 hp ls are 6.0 or larger or boosted.

Ehhh,..Not true,...a head and cam 5.7 LS will lay 440 to the ground,...ive done it several times,..and daily drove them.

The last WS6 I had made 425 on a Mustang dyno,..trapped 95mph to the 1/8 and really was pretty mild on the cam a 233/239 on a 111lsa

Actually has a friend dyno his 5.3 swapped c10 last week,..made 389 to the tire,... cam only ,..thru a 4l60 auto

Did you see the 350 in GroveCity for sale on face book market place? It’s 30 over built by Mike at performance automotive machine. They have been trying to sell it because they sold the car they was going to put it in. It’s never been installed. I know it wasn’t 500hp but may be a good buy and put the new aluminum heads on it to get close.....Andrew Balling was listing it for his father....

455 it and a cam. Call it a day. Cubic inches are so much fun. Torque rules.
