As the title says, looking for 70 GS stage 1 or GSX stage 1. Preferebly without A/C with either auto or a stick. I would prefer it to be restored already but, if I found the right car that would work also. Numbers matching cars only please.

I have been scouring the net for a few months now so I know all the cars on ebay and hemmings. Looking for the hidden gems now.

    Thanks

If you will take either auto or 4 speed GSX get the auto as it will be 50-100k cheaper. The 4 speeds are chicken lips.

If you will take the GSX or non GSX take the non GSX as that will save another 50-100K. There are a lot more Stage 1 Non X cars.

I know where theres a saturn GSX stage 1 auto no a/c and yes, it's numbers, docs, in the registry, blah, blah, blah - BUT it would take bookoos $ to pry it from this death grip I have on it. Like they say, money talks...how serious are ya?

Your description fits the bill. What would the bill be?

Would take a non-GSX. I owned a non-A/c GS Stage 1 automatic in 1970, bought new. Got any leads?

    Thanks

03darkt, from a guy (me) that can do some mechanical but not any body work (yet) I have spent countless thousands of dollars:dollar: to buy mech parts, pay a body shop to transform a rust free AZ skylark to build a X clone resto mod? My body is still on the rotisserie at the body shop in primer mostly, about a year now? So Unless you have a bottomless supply of money and alot of patience, and an understanding spouse that you can hide half the bills from....I might recommend going to Scottsdale when Berrett Jackson is on and checking it out or, all the other auctions and car shows in the area, you may find yourself a sweet ride for the right price. I believe this year might be the year for a deal on a good car. Thats just my 2 bits worth and I can't make any money on the stock market. Of course there is satisfaction in doing these things yourself ( i hope) but you have to ask yourself at what price? In the past 6 months or so I've seen some really nice numbers matching 70 staged gs's & non on this board that to me are very desirable at really reasonable prices(for a buyer). In my opinion and i'm no expert, now may be excellent time to get a good buick for a great price and a terrible time to sell one:ball:
take your time, there are alot of nice cars out there and this is the place to find one....Gord

Appears to be one 70 GSX for sale at Scottsdale BJ 2008 --#1019. With one exception GS/GSX cars have not sold well at BJ.

flynbuick, if you take 2 similarly equipped matching # gsx with the only difference being 1 is a 4 speed and the other an automatic, i dont think the 4 speed is worth 50-100k more than the automatic. maybe 5 or 10k, no more. i really dont think most guys would spend that much more just to bang gears. just my opinion.:beer

It may be your opinion but you would be mistaken. How many people have you seen look into a muscle car and say, "Darn I was hoping it would be an automatic."

There's a 70 Stage 1 GSX in the latest Hemmings for $250K, located in NC.
Also a 70 Stage 1 conv., triple black, for sale by the same person, for the same price.

Why is numbers matching important? By saying you don't want AC it implies to me you intend to race the car. However, that doesn't seem too prudent in a numbers matching car. What's your plan? Garage queen/investment, shows, racing, or ? Just curious.

    You would be mistaken.
Everytime my wife looks into our stage 1 four gear car, she says.
I wish this was an automatic, I would really like to take this for a ride.
It's not always a man looking into interiors these days. So the count stands
at one. Call her what you want. That's the facts.

The purchase of these cars is driven my males and it is just supply, demand and nostalgia operating here. Stop signs are sometimes put out by females.

There are maybe less than 10 GSX stage 1, 4 speeds w/o AC fully concours restored that still have their original stuff. A lot more autos were made and they were more likely to have survived 37 years-- especially the early years before they became so valuable. There are just more auto trans cars to choose from in the market place at a given time.

What I said about pricing is also reflected in the actual sales of these cars when you take into account both public and private sales of concours cars:

    1970 4 speed stage 1 GSXs 200-250K

    1970 auto stage 1 GSXs 150-200K

1970 stage 1 GS 455s 50 -70K ( 4 speeds lead autos in price but the differential is far less because the top end is less)

We have owned both auto trans and 4 speed stage 1 70 GSXs so we like both. We still do have a 4 speed and these are just the facts.

Hmmm... Wonder whose they would be...:Brow: BTW, they are both no expense spared Jim Weise rotisserie restorations. If you were at this year's GS Nationals, you had a chance to see them. Outstanding vehicles.

I had a 70 stage 1 GS in 1970. White, auto, no A/C . I was just trying to find one that was similiar to what I had. I plan to drive it but, only on nice days. If its like my AAR Cuda it won't see more than 500 miles a year.

With the kind of flexibility that you have you will have a fair number of options at a good price relative to concours. This is especially true because you intend to drive the car a bit. There is no point is paying the full tilt price for a non driven resto GSX that you intend to drive. If you will accept a saturn yellow car, you will have even more options because they made a lot more of those relative to apollo white.
