Are we related? :Brow: Is you middle name Bad Luck? :spank:

I started a stupidily easy fix on the GS 2 days ago and I should have known to leave well enough alone. :Dou:  :Dou:

Will find out if it will be attending the Bash with me or not tonight. :af:

OK, It's almost here! This will be a great weekend, I think.

I will be bringing the grill and the GN in a two trailer train, and our caravan should be quite a sight on US79!

I hope to have plenty of wood to keep all four cooking chambers going well into the night, so bring plenty of food for yourselves and some for others!

I have a side burner, so if you need to heat anything, no problem.

I will be bringing alot of food as well, so if you forget, there should be plenty.

We will show East Texas just what GOING FAST WITH CLASS really means! :beer :3gears:

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone there.

    Frank

I've got 2 big pine trees you can HAVE if you come get them. Only 35 miles from the track! :Brow: :Brow: :Brow:

What kind of food do you have? :Brow: You know I'm always hungery and I'm a scavenger! :Dou:

Convoy of me, the GS and the dog down I20 should be quite a sight! :bglasses:

The car IS running (got it fixed last night - thanks again Phil for calling and calming me down so I wasn't throwing F-bombs all over the front yard for a 3rd night), so the GS will be there......BRING TOOLS GUYS!!!! :beer

    Cool! :beer :beer :beer

Your Q-jet does have the inlet fitting, right?

Now that I finished up the last of my fuel work, it feels like a carb problem to me. :Smarty:

Sometimes when I give it a little punch from a dead stop or rolling a little, it cuts out and then picks up.

Also sometimes AFTER I punch it and let off, it cuts out sometimes like it's out of gas.

I hope it's not my stupidity, but I feel close to making some positive progress in getting decently down the track.

The timing is good. I think it was around 80 degrees curve either at idle or 2,500 rpm. Can't remember. Does that sound right?

Are you still timing it be ear? I hope not. That off idle stumble can be timing for sure! 80 degrees? Not timing. Your engine wants 34-36* all in at 2400 RPM or so. I usually start with 0-2 initial and light springs. Do you have an adjustable vacuum advance? You will want to have about 10* more VA so when you are cruising you have 45 or so total. :Smarty:

You knew all that, right?

We will have deer sausage and fajitas and who knows what else, and there should be plenty to share. What are you going to bring?

Yep, timing by ear but a guy from the club put a timing light on it and he said it was good. Maybe it was 30 and not 80. The numbers are pretty similar to me. :Dou:

    No adjustable vacuum advance.

Yummmm! Deer sausage and fajitas. I love your fajitas!!! :TU:

I'm providing breakfast at my house Sunday morning. Thinking about breakfast burritos. That's something I can't screw up.

So are you coming to breakfast? :Brow: Got to get a count so I can run to the store tonight.

First thing we should do is put a light on it and see what's really up with timing. Personally, I think it's ignition, not fuel or carb. If we find the timing is really screwed up, fix it and one run like that. If no improvement, well throw in my spare HEI--real easy, quick swap.
I presume you've changed, or at least looked at, plugs throughout the ordeal. We went through all these kinds of swaps for three days on my friend Patrick's car in BG, trying to cure a top end miss, only to finally pull the plugs and see that #6 was horribly coolant fouled (slight head gasket leak.)
We all really want you to go ALL the way!!!! :Brow: :eek2:

Well, its Saturday at 12:00. :( I am not going to drive out to Rusk. Chance of rain is just too much for my leaky convertible with bald drag radials. I hope it works out with you guys, but the radar looks pretty beat.

    Well It Came & Went!!
Unfortunately, "Mother" Nature, was not helping!!!!
We DID get some Passes, then the Sky opened up, and we got shut Down. :af:
Dee Got her 14.04 Pass, (I think) and we had some GOOD times posted, for the TNT Session. NO Breakage, other than a Certain UnNamed Person, who thought a Turbo Car could run on FUMES instead of a Full Tank of Fuel. :Dou:
I counted 21 Cars in the Lanes, including 1 Chrysler 300 C that was running with us (solid 13s with a NEW Hemi) and a Great Get Together at the Motel, for Bench racing, swapping Stories and GREAT BBQ (Thanks Frank!!)
There were a couple of "Brand X&Y Cars" that came out of the Austin area and joined in.
IF WE COULD JUST Get "Mother 's" help, This will be Great Event.
Hats Off to Phil & David :TU:
The ONLY Complaint I have is we need better directions to the Track. (Map at Hotel SUCKED), but I think we can handle that from the past experience, although the search WAS Interesting, and the Back Roads Beautiful!
Saw 4 Deer on the excursion, and GMC 1, 8ft Black Snake 0, while getting there. (Stupid thing was across the WHOLE lane, and decided to return to where it came from. WRONG Answer!

Sorry to hear about Mother Nature. She wasn't kind to us for the Midwest Challenge, either, only got in the major part of one day. What did we all do to tick her off, I wonder?

8 foot snake? You do grow things big in Texas!

Glad you still had fun anyway! Buick folks seem to have no trouble doing that.

    Take care,

    Shari

Yeah, I think we NEED some of the "Norwalk Luck" (1 Rain Date in 16 Years)
Was to Short of Notice to Get "Skylarkwilly" to use His Persuation, down here.
(1300 mile tow IS a bit much for a 1 day event)
As for Other items, I AM getting excited already about Norwalk for next Year!!!
I have "Talked" with Deb Bader, and being that they are changing to NHRA Sanction, and there are $6M in Upgrades going into Norwalk, (THIS IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING!!!!!!!) What was GREAT Before, is going to get BETTER!!!
Track, at Rusk was Nice, But they needed more "Bader" deplomancy toward the Racers from the Operators.
NOW IF I can only have a Car ready for June!!!

You may be right JR. (hey thought- Rain X as a sponsor :puzzled: ) As for the Bader influence I think all tracks should be required to have that kind of deplomacy. :beer

Sorry about the poor weather, who'da thunk it'd rain in Texas???
I thought I was the reason for the rain, but it looks like it's not me, yay for that!

What happened with Dee's car? Get it sorted out?

I FINALLY went "all the way" 3 times, but not in the 13's like I should be. There is still an issue, but not as bad of an issue as before. :puzzled:

And yes, JR had to mention my best pass was only a 14.04, worst was I think 14.4 out of the 3 runs I got in before the rain (I tried to leave my "little cloud at home). MPH picked up on each run but 1/4 time got slower. It has something to do with heat because the warmer the car is, the slower my 1/4 times.

First run short-shifted (I've been running it in D) from first to second. I think I'm having some kind of transmission problems. I'm going to try a new modulator since they are cheap. I had to put my foot hard through the floor and almost broke my seat trying to get my foot into it more so it wouldn't short-shift. It did shift correctly when I put my foot through the floor. I think the tranny cooler and service might have helped but I'm going to make some new transmission lines to get them out from underneath the headers. just in case.

I felt a hiccup coming in second gear on my 3rd run and sure enough I got two small pops out of it in second just like before, but it didn't nose-dive.

The timing was right-on. The distributor cap was riding against the radiator hose so Nick fixed that for me and set the timing. Thanks Nick!!!! :TU: :TU: :TU:

I've got to check the new plugs that I have in it to see how it ran.

And thanks to Phil for all of your technical support over the phone! :TU: :TU: :TU: There might have been several times he called when I was in not the best of moods over the GS but he put up with my bitching! :Dou:

Guess I should have warned all of you city boys that there is wildlife in East Texas. I've attached a picture of the snake I that walked right over when I stepped out my door barefooted after dark. Didn't notice he was there until I went to walk back in the house and couldn't get back in because he was right in front of the door! :eek2:

Thanks for the food Frank. Excellent as usual!!! :TU:
