After church I tore down the front suspension today.A buddy is going to sandblast control arms and sway bar and then going to install all new suspension parts and convert to disc brakes in ft.
Well my buddy got some parts blasted and I'm getting them primed and been wire brushing the frame. While I was at it went ahead and painted parts S/G black may have to touch up after rebuild but figured while I could coat everything to get some paint on them. Not that this is concours or anything but what is correct color for the sway bar?
Well I've wire brushed the ft frame from firewall forward, rear axel and back, under trunk floor and interior floors.Wore out a grinder and a couple wire brush cups and I 'm not doing that anymore I'm to old to crawl around up under a car on the floor on my back;nasty and hard work so next one gets sandblasted. Also got Por15 brushed on the floors and some of the frame. My friend Brad got some more parts blasted and he helped get them painted today as well.I've detailed several dash parts, engine brkts, and small parts along the way as well.
Hello Rusty! You didnt ask me, but, here's a consideration. The color is 1995 GM SunBurst orange metallic... Its pretty close to the original color with just a 'hint' more metalflake. THEN to make it your own.. keep the overall appearance totally original and slap on the ALWAYS PERIOD CORRECT AND WAY~TOO~AWESOME ~ CRAGAR SS WHEELS like you see on my 71 Lark I sold years ago... The CRAGARS are still my FAV aftermarket wheel EVER and they actually ended up on my 65 Shadow Turquoise Lark...!!! Wheelz, Tampa Bay
We think alike on custom wheels,I love me some cragers! I may get a set to put on this car at some point.I already have the paint in the original color so I guess I will stay with that.
Well I've been getting some things done to car, rounding up and buying parts, turned rotors, had original alternator rebuilt, cleaned, seam sealed & painted firewall, cleaned up and rewrapped wiring harness, ect.I have to admit I was sidelined by a side job I couldn't turn away that took a week to do.When I painted the side job I got white overspray all over all my freshly painted engine brkts and had to go back and sand and repaint all of them again.ou: I amaze myself sometimes.Hopefully by next weekend I can start putting suspension back under the car. This weekend while cleaning up engine block I discovered the motor is matching number original to car! Everthing looked kinda original but I had assummed it was not because both heads have a large "73" embossed on each end of the head and I assummed it meant year model of motor but maybe not?
Well back working on the ole girl again. From now on I hope to be putting stuff back together and no more tearing it apart.ray: Did some junkyarding today and scored a almost new set of air shocks off a Cutlass so I guess I will try them out on this car.
Well the brand new water pump that was supposed to fit my car will not allow pulley to bolt up [hits water pump] so must have been for non a/c car:af: I also installed all the front end bushings, lower ball joint ect.The upper ball joints have a separate collar to hold the rubber cup and it will not fit thur hole in control arm or all the way up on ball joint[inst show both collar and ball joint install from the top side of control arm] collar could go on bottom and ball joint thur top and it will bolt up. Anyone have this problem? Kit was the full kit from adeals on ebay;they show a smaller kit without centerlink and picture for that kit shows upper one piece ball joints without the collar which looks more like my factory ones? Their full kits show the 2 piece upper ball joints? Do any of the aftermarket repro suppliers ever try to install their products or compare to the original parts they are trying to duplicate?
Rusty Do they still sell Mcquarie Norris parts ? Only trouble I recall was the front sway bar bushings didn 't fit . Had to use moog. And the ball joint rivit kits didn 't fit . Had to use ss396 ones . DL
Be careful with those "little old lady" cars. According to this Dutch commercial, some of them have a sporty driving style: <iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/JKGZhPUz6ag" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
