I have a newly rebuilt 72 455 with a 75 oil pump cover on it which is leaking pretty badly. How do I fix it and will the gears fall out or stay in? Iam not very experienced with working on the internals of an engine and I don' t really want to open a can of worms I can't handle.
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

where does it look like you oil is leaking from on your pump? If you have oil dripping from your pressure spring cover bolt it could actually be a poor oil pan/ timing cover gasket leak . If you don't have a good seal around where the oil pan gasket and the timing cover gasket meet at the pan, you could develop a small leak, that when your engine is running could sling oil from the drivers side to the oil pump cover and make it appear that your cover is leaking. I had this problem @ 5 months ago and took me a couple weeks to trace down because I thought it was a leaky pump gasket . Just something to check out . good luck :TU: P.s. I forgot to mention you want to make sure the timing cover gasket where it meets the pan is trimmed flush with the block . If it protrudes too far down , that is where you'll find the leak and it will run along the pan till the fan blows it over to the oil pump housing. :Dou:
