    Hey Doc!

Good to know that carb is that far along...I think I'm going to see if a later Holley OEM linkage will do the trick, just haven't gotten there yet. And I haven't had an issue with the heat plugged at the carb pad, I only had an issue when I plugged it at the head. THAT caused a hole you could fall into!

Bob - I didn't answer your question-I haven't done anything to this car or motor, other than the Q-Jet, Doc Mod, Distributor and a 2.5 mandrel bent exhaust with an X-pipe and Walker DynoMaxs's (which drone!)

Rhett,,, you might try soldering a flat washer on the inside of that dog leg linkage piece and then put another flat washer on the outside and secure it with the small cotter pin.... :Brow: that way it cannot cock to one side or the other... the secondary does not bind up on its own,,, neither does the primarys.... I got the same set up on all my holleys and they dont bind at all.... the dog leg linkage does 2 things , it starts the secondary opening when you nail it... and it manually closes the secondary when you let off.... got to be adjusted at both ends of the travel....:Brow:

Thanks for that video. :TU: :3gears:

With all this Polar Vortex crap, both my cars have been sleeping soundly for months.  And it looks like at least two more months before I will try starting them. :puzzled:

been saving pennies and buying and collecting parts. New borg warner s475 Turbo has arrived and I started polishing the compressor housing to get rid of casting marks. mocked up the new turbo and it is a lot larger so had to move the turbo back 3". Made some mistakes last year with choice of turbo and volume of air needed but hopefully it will be all worked out with this new setup. My motor wants more and more air!!! Worked with the guys over at forced induction and they built me hopefully what I needed. Started fixing the bent bumper from the jackwagon who backed into my parked car. My garage is 45 degrees right now and I use a kerosene torpedo heater but after a while I just nd fresh air. Shame on me but I only have about 8 hours in the garage for all feb and Hopefully it starts to warm up.

Looking forward for some Buick events this summer.. any rec?? Looks like BPG is a go for me this year and already registered for the adirondac nationals in Lake George.

Still have to hit the track with you Rhett.. maybe as soon as early april. Buick bash I think is april 13

Cant wait to see your turbo run, Paul. I should have at least one car ready to run for April.

Hey Paul, was wondering what happened to you and the turbo car. Sounds like the new turbo might do the trick :TU: I think you might of posted it somewhere but was wondering what cam you ended up using? I still am thinking about doing the turbo later on and was thinking my NH400 would work good.

  7. I'll jump into this NH thread. Spent 8 hours on Saturday washing and cleaning parts to bring my block to the machine shop next weekend.

    hey,,Paul,,,,

I have found that when you are doing that kind of cleaning ,, Simple Green works best ,,, you need enough to cover what ever it is you are cleaning.... drop it in and come back the next day and all the crud will just rinse off with water....
I usually buy 3 gallons or so when I start... expensive , but saves a ton of work....anything that the SG wont get needs a sandblaster.... :Brow::Brow:

  9. Those are the after pics. They were caked with desert dust and grime. A friend of mine has a rotary parts washer that runs at 160* and sprays a water/chem solution.

I was using that, a nylon brush and Castrol super clean. At this point, anything that's left on the heads will have be dealt with by the machinist.

Vandals seem to have painted your engine red.....

  11. It's more orange than red. It's not like the red that's available now.

The important thing is it's at the machine shop. They'll scrub 'em down.

Paul - will powdercoating hold up to exhaust manifold heat?

Nevermind - answered my own question - it cures at a lower temp than manifolds get too, it'd burn.

I've got two manifolds for the engine that Tom is building that I've got to coat with something....

I have some ceramic coating in blk satin that can be used. you shoot it on with a hvlp gun and bake at 500* than allow to finish baking on the car. I paid I think $50 a qt. I forgot the name.

Caswell offers Cerakote, a high temp ceramic coating:
    http://www.caswellplating.com/powder-coating/high-temp-ceramic-coatings.html

and silicone powder coat is good up to 1000 degrees F. If it never gets red-hot it might last... better do more research.

I don't have experience with either, tho I bought some Cerakote but haven't used it yet.
Haven't done anything with my cars this winter.... it's been too damn cold!

I can't remember what coating it is the Uncle uses on the headers for the race car. I will have to ask. He does an internal and external coat if I remember correctly and swears by it. Says with the car running and hot you can reach up and touch the headers without getting burned. Of course it is hot, but not instant burn like an uncoated header.

Doc - all I could find was 1/2" welsh plug - they OD at .510 or so... will these work on the rocker shaft ends? If not, does anyone know the Dorman # ?

Rhett,, if you think about it a lot of stuff will work.... a bolt shank cut off... a mild steel metal rod... round piece of brass... copper pipe caps that you find in the hardware stores.... just some ideas.....think, guy, think.... and they are held in place by the pins that go thru the ends of the shafts.....

    With that, Gotcha.....

Mine are sunk well short of the cotter pins, so I was thinking the interference fit was key, and that the ID of the shafts had a taper of something. if I can bring them back out and use something to make the plugs I've got work, then no problem . Hell, I can flare the outside of the plug with a cone of some sort, and sink them flush with the pin. .

Just checking. I like this motor too much to experiment without some sort of checking. .....it's a goooood motor.
