My barn (soon to be a garage) is 24 X 26 feet. It's good, but if I had it to do over, it would be 24 X 30. That extra four feet would make a hell of a difference.

Totally totally with you on that. I wasn't thinking, need room for a bench, etc.....I was limited by property lines on the depth, but easily could have gone 6-8 feet over on the width. It was in my original sketch, but I really didnt pick up that it never carried over to the plans until the foundation was excavated. Gotta start paying attention. In the grand scheme of things, the cost would have been minimal.

12 ft is a good wide bay, but thats all. I already took stitches to the scalp trying to get around the corner of the lift in a hurry...

On the way to work yesterday morning I noticed there was a new set of tire marks going down my street. Not sure who did it cause I don't remember hearing it, but I really feel like going out and laying my own set to show them what they are supposed to look like. But I will withhold the urge until I can muster up figuring out the best way to put a Posi in the GS. While one wheeled burnouts are fun, they just aren't that impressive afterwards with only one black mark on the street.

Hopefully soon I can get my convertible fired off soon. No plans for my blue gs. Putting all my time in my 340 for my yellow special. It's gonna be the 3rd rebuild. I swear this thing is jinxed. :af:. Here is a video of my 66gs and a couple of friends cars burning a little of rubber. This will cheer up the winter blues and it's good motivation. http://youtu.be/VkzHWASaxjY

I am pretty sure I found the culprit a couple months ago. I was on my way back to my house coming the opposite way down the street I usually do. As I about half way down the street I see this mid 70's Camaro creeping down the street from the other way. Just so happens he stops right over the other burnout marks and waited for me. I was in my truck so not like he was waiting on the other classic to cruise down the street. He just sat there like waiting for me to go by, so I stopped in the road about a hundred feet or so from him. He then slowly starts moving and drives on by. It was no stock Camaro, it was making a pretty good rumble as it went by. It was no young chap either. I would guess in his late 30's or early to mid 40's. I think he lives on the next street over, I haven't seen the car parked over there, but there are very similar tire marks that go around the corner onto the next steet.

I don't mind the tire marks in the street cause I have laid my fair share over the years, however what does concern me is when is he doing it? The houses on both sides of the street where those tire marks start, there are kids that live in both of those houses. And down the street about the same distance on the other side of me the same thing, kids that live on both sides of the street. They are out playing all the time and all seem to be pretty good kids. I just hope he isn't dumb enough to pull that mess with them out or not paying attention.

I am still kicking.... got the seats out of my riv rebuilding them....got a rude awakening the other day,,, bought the new covers from Clarks corvair and they are beautifull,,, but when I got the old covers off, the seat foams are all dry rotted and crumbling.... aint havin that.... so I called cc back and they had the fronts only.....:rant: I did inform them that if they had the fronts , some body there should have thought about the back ones being bad also.... and ,,, in wresteling around with the front tops, I discovered that they are directional... something else they did not tell me in the instructions....
We had a ''Come to Jesus meetin" that should help them better serve their customers....
I will say this,, the new seat covers are beautifull, black with red stitching to set them off.... high quality,, I am happy with them....

Deffinitly both nailheads. Both buicks are number matching 401. Here's a pic of the one in my blue gs. My best run is a 13.41 on street tires. http://[IMG]

    I like that limit chain!

I just turned on the heat in the garage, might get half a day in on my 65... have to pull the valley pan and take a look at the cam while it's all knocked down...

I was going to shim the valve springs to see if I could get more RPM out of it, but now I'm just gonna button it back up.. Tom and I should have the other motor done by fall, and I don't want to push this old war horse any harder than I have to... especially in light of the piston I took out of the 66.....

I'm trying a new Q-Jet intake this year - the plenum was CNC machined wide open. I don't know whether that much volume will hurt or help, but it sure looks cool. Had the Q-Jet re-chromated and dialed back the bleed sizes, and a brand new OLD AC fuel pump....

Some fresh paint for the block (I know it's not right, but I used Plasticote Alpine Green, and I really like the color... sorry Tom, but I think that's what we're gonna use on the new motor) had the radiator tanks re-soldered, new heater hoses, radiator hoses and belts, trying a 160 thermostat this year and I think I'm good to go! Still looking for a 9433757 GM belt though...

One thing I still have to do before it all goes together is clean the rocker shafts out.. I have to go find one of Doc's threads so I can source the right welsh plugs for the job.

Rhett. I ported out One of my QJ Intakes like yours. Hand ported tho. The Old But Dyno registered at least 20 more horses. WHAT a DIFFERENCE! You'll like it.

Rhett, That looks really good. On the intake the extra plenum area helps, did you do any other mods to it? Is this the doc mod one you did?

Nice job on your intake. Your carb looks awesome too. I still never opened up my intake yet. It's just a stock quadrajet intake with a 72 455 quadrajet on it.

Thanks Ponch - I know I really enjoyed the first one I did..and the Car ET'd pretty good

Bob - the first Q-Jet Doc Mod I did, I didn't open up the primary side of the plenum as much -left in kind of a teardrop shape. I did radius the turns into the runners pretty well though. This one was done when I got it, so it's a good chance to compare the two...I figured that might be too much volume in the plenum and lose velocity and kill torque..

But if you look at a B4B, this is the way they're set up. We'll see, hopefully soon!

I'd like to try Tom's version of the mod, and will with my square bore manifold next fall...if it proves out I'll see if I can find an unaltered Q-Jet manifold and try it.

And after that - it's time for the Three Barrel Shootout thanks to Doc.....I really need a Holley guru as it still needs some set-up work and I cant seem to find a way to keep the secondary linkage from binding on the rosette at the end of the secondary throttle shaft - unfortunately it binds at WOT and that's a little frightening!

I pulled the valley cover off this morning - I'll post some pics of the cam lobes tonight, I'm interested in your opinions.

In the meantime, can someone link me to one of Doc's posts walking through the Rocker Shaft refurb...I searched but couldn't find one..specifically looking for Welsh plug size....

That welch plug will be a Dorman item,,,, .525 outside diameter....

you need to take a good drill bit of about 3/8 in.. and operate it in a clockwise direction down thru those heat passages you plugged ,,, so the carb will get warm enough to make all that cat pee vaporize...:laugh: and.... all you need to make that 3 barrel carb completely good is to get the secondary linkage right... so it does not bind... I have gone completely through it and rebuilt it already.... even the idle screws are basicly set.... :Brow::Brow:
