OK disclaimer... I was told this by an 18 year old ....... picture this at 1130pm & Apparuntly racing a late model GTO with a trail blazer SS 6.0 awd they past a tahoe sheriffs truck that was parked. The lights of the tahoe jumped on (something about 2 cars wizzing by at 100+ )and he got caught in traffic for a few seccond allowing the trailblazer to exit then hard left turn along with maximum accelleration into a friends neighborhood ....behind his garage they hid as about 15-20 patrol cars Highway patrol and sheriff were looking with spot lights for said Trailblazer ss....................................................yea the apple didnt fall far from the tree here

the SS was retrieved this afternoon....I did have the conversation about "its a felony now to run" Along with the you might hurt someone speech but you know it went thru one ear and out the other......................

As your yelling at him, try not to crack a smile.

I have a good friend of mine that owned "the 24 hour 454 Chevelle" back when we were 19. He bought the car and took it out that night. Tried out running the cops, crashed the chevelle, tried running, passed out and got arrested.:Dou:. He now 40+ and a VP at a bank. To this day, he still hasnt told his mom.. Im gonna laugh when his kid pull similar crap on a few years. I'll be right there to remind him!

Nope, that apple doesn't fall that far away. I used to watch my kids like a hawk. I'm not really a helicopter parent, but when it gets all quiet in the back of the house, you know something's going down...like lighting Estes rocket motors taped to the tops of Hot Wheels cars. This is why I made sure I got underpowered cars for my spawn. The oldest STILL managed to get his up to 95 on the freeway- TWICE, that I know of, because I saw those tickets. And 7 accidents (that I know of), all in three years. I finally said that's it, you get a bike, you walk, or you ride. After 3 years of that, he settled out nicely...and I saved about $15k just in the insurance during that time. He bought his own car with a little of my help, and his insurance was only $160 a month, then. I used to drive like a maniac- street-raced, road-raced, have dead friends, the whole deal, but only once had a semi-serious wreck myself, sliding off the road in the rain. I didn't win all the road or street races, obviously. But then, I ain't dead, obviously.

It's funny but also scary our kids don't learn from out experiences. They all have to experience it for themselves.

My kid went through it as you well know and I again want to thank you for your support over the last two years.

Not to hijack the thread but quick update on Vince!
He has recovered from his "driving accident" of October 15, 2010 where the doctors said he would never throw a baseball again. Wish kids would listen and remember and learn form the old guys experiences.

He has a four year baseball/academic scholarship to Fontbonne University in St Louis, MO (he will need car help/advice from fellow members there eventually). 900 miles away, I'm gonna miss my fishing partner.

He pitched summer ball on an elite travel team he in Florida this summer at the Met's and Cardinal's spring training facility. Pitched at the ESPN Sports complex in Disney too. Both outings brought scouts over to talk to him and his coach. Scouts from the Houston Astros and Oakland A's liked what they saw, talked to him and will now follow his college career.

God gave him back everything and more. He is now 6'6" tall and wheres a size 16 shoe.

Looks like that parents curse is coming around full circle. That said it seems that all my friends who i hung around with and got away with some crazy stuff are all having their kids come into learning about the Law and consequences. It seems todays youth lack common sense and cannot seem to get away with anything because of it. I was always friends with the LEO's, worked a short bit in Law Enforcement and now have a lot of friends and even family who are LEO's. So, i do get away with a lot when i feel the urge to get stupid but man these kids today either cannot communicate well or are just plain dumb! Now that you know i worked as an LEO i can say that my D-Max will eat most any LEO vehicle alive. But, when it comes to handling watch out, even the Tahoes can corner up to 1G. I have heard of a couple Tahoes up this way blowing side airbags from cornering so hard.

It's fun to recant stories how we got away with it. I did too. Ha Ha Ha. One night during high school running from a cop going down back roads with the lights off by moonlight at unsafe speeds. Downshifting the trans so I wouldn't have to hit the brake lights (how clever is that?). It was a hair raising experience I'll never forget, nor will the other teenagers in my car at the time.

Running from the cops kills people. Tell your kids not to do it even if they are going to get into trouble for whatever the first stupid thing was that they did. I've wised up. This sort of stuff is not funny, nor nostalgic. It was stupid then and still is. Our "crime" was to illegally park a car, not steal one, just park one where it shouldn't have been parked.

Sorry if I'm being a downer, so to speak. In hindsight, it would have changed my life far worse to have gone into a tree or an oncoming car and have hurt my passengers or innocent strangers than to get a parking ticket. It wasn't even my parked car. It was a passenger's parked car.

    Mike
