The guy at the dealership told me the srt8 challengers only run 13.3s. That's slower than the SRT8 Jeeps. I've seen those run 12.9s completely stock.

It is always satisfying to feed on real meat. The mopar is the natural prey of the big block Buick.

Yep this is an old kill story. Actually I'm glad you found it as there is an interesting backstory to that run and some up dates as well I didn't add in my first post.

Backstory leading to the '05 race: I don't know the guy as I said in the post, but I know who he is. Decent guy but VERY proud of his car if you know what I mean. lol. I had run the guy previously in several different cars but it took him til '06 to figure it out. I guess he's bad at remembering a face. lolol

I first ran him when he bought the Roadrunner in '02 as an original Six Pack 440 car with 4 gear tranny. I was cruising my brother's Blue 87 Turbo Regal just feeling some changes I'd made to it's tune for him. I run into the Roadrunner and we kinda just "happen" to find a deserted 4 lane to play on. I don't think he realized that the innocent Dark Blue Regal he was jacking with was still on it's low 12 second setup, tires and all. Well his passenger calls the 3 count and I launch the turbo car with 4 psi showing on the gauge. This will net a 1.70 60foot at the track every time. The Mickey Thompson ET streets hooked and the boost gauge swung to 17psi and away I went. Got him by about 7 or 8 cars. I slow down and he pulls up, looks at the ca rand asks the ubiquitous "What's in that thing?". I give the standard "It's a V6" reply and he just shakes his head and gives me the thumbs up. I turn off and that is that.

    There's more. lol

About 2 months later I'm driving my youngest brother's 91 Camaro I built for him, just tooling around for grins. Guess who comes up beside me at a light and revs on the 3rd gen Camaro that looks stock on a set of Weld wheels. Yep, good guess, Roadrunner guy. Apparently he's dense since he rolls his window down and asks if I wanna play without recognizing me. I say (with a Cheshire grin mind you) "Sure!" We head out to the same place I ran him before and on the way I notice his car has different pitch to the exhaust and definitely is an automatic now. I later found through the grapevine he'd cammed the engine and ported the heads among other things. We get to the spot and once again his passenger counts the 3 count. ON 3 I nail the Camaro and IMMEDIATELY just start to put bus length's on him. I guess I coulda told him the car had a built 355 EFI motor with Trick Flow heads and a Paxton centrifugal blower pushing 8psi and a 100 shot of spray to sweeten the power output. Or, I coulda told him the car had full bolt on drag suspension and just went 11.01@ 127 on a smaller 50shot kicker of nitrous. Didn't need the spray this night though. Guess he saw that the car would put 5 inches of daylight under both fronts on the street utilizing the Mickey Thompson 28x12.50 ET streets to their fullest.

Buuuutttt, he didn't ask, so a buttwhoopin' he did receive.

After the run he asked what the car ran and I said it had been in the 11's. lol. Once again he shook his head and went on his way still without any apparent recognition of ME.

So fast forward to the following spring of '03 I am out putting in my 70 Stage1 car. I see him flash by me going the other way and this time I whip a Uturn to chase him down. See, I heard he got tired of locals(bwahaha) beating him so he had a near 500 inch motor built to be able to whip some butt. I heard that and knew I had to find him. Well, I caught him at a light and let my 3 inch Borla XR1's let him know what I intended. He led us out to the usual spot. I arm the juice and line up after a tidy little burnout of my Mickey 28x13.50 ET streets. His passenger gives the three and I launch hard and I'm pulling him in first gear. I put about half car on him by about 100 feet out where I know the juice won't bust the tires loose. I hit the spray and seeya. I put about 6 cars on him by 1000 feet and lift since this race is over.

This time he pulls up and I'm sure he will recognize me since I am kinda his nemesis now, lol. Nope:shock: He pulls up and in shock says "damn man, does that thing run 10's or something." I say "Yeah." he gives me a look of WOW and says "Good run." then proceeds on his way.

That is the backstory to the Apollo(Nova) race. That car had the GS engine in it since I retired my real 70Stage1 from the abuse of racing and getting tired of being kicked out of tracks for no roll bar. Besides I wanted to go FAST and hacking a GS up isn't an option for me, especially this particular Stage1. The Nova at the time I ran the Mopar was 600lbs lighter than the GS so the performance difference with the same engine was noticeable.

Now, the postscript after my '05 post. I picked up a set of Stage2 TE's, intake, block girdle, pan and other stuff from Racebuicks on here. I had Eric Ruge attach it all tot he engine and added the necessary equipment to support the newfound power. At the same time, Mr Mopar got an Indy Max block and redid his combo. It now makes 765hp. He finally found out who the dude with the Buick power was and finally got told I was in the other cars that popped him. Word was he was gonna look for me in '07. Well we never got to run because I then put a tube chassis under my Nova(Apollo) and found some more power since I have my own shop(That'd be Overkill Street Performance and Racing in Lawrence, Ks. I know it's a shameless plug but I had to.)with a chassis dyno that comes in handy. First time to the track at Buick vs Ford last year the car ran 9.90's@135 on it's third pass ever with a small 150 shot. That pass was not good as I had nitrous problems halfway downtrack and hurt the motor. She was laying over bad on the big end. Knocked the piston's out of it when the electrical system failed mid run.:ball: Just bad luck or I woulda had me a 9.40 or 9.30 first time out at 145 or so and I hadn't even pilled it up yet. This year though.:3gears:

Anywhoo, he heard this and I guess lost his bravado as I do business with the same local machine shop as does his engines and they tell me he wants nothing to do with me now. I have seen him when I've had the Nova out cruising this year and he just waves when a low slung tube car with 10.5W's on the back and a nasty Buick rumble goes by the other way.

How fast was his car if you stomped him so bad. You'd think bein that cocky he'd have a stout machine. Hopefully yall will meet again!

When I ran him with the Regal it was pretty much a stock 440 sixpack on street radials. I'd say low 13's to my 12.30's that night in the Regal.

When I ran him in the Camaro, I heard later he ran a 12.11@114. When I ran him that night he was on Mickey Sportsmans that don't hook for doody I've found and the Camaro would absolutely hook on dirt it seemed. Camaro ran 11.40's@120 on motor, so with me hooking and him not in a street situation it was ugly for him.

When I ran him in the GS his new engine supposedly made 600hp but I never found out what time it ran. The GS ran low 11's/high 10's on a 150 shot anywhere, anytime at 126mph spraying from 2nd gear to 1200feet where I ran out of gear and had to hold the RPM at 6000. His engine mighta been up to the task of being in the game but his car worked terrible on an unprepped road.

He had gone 10.90 with his Indy combo when I ran him in the Nova. I pulled him a car, car and a half on motor before letting out and then him saying he had problems with his carbs.

Truth be told, his car is VERY nice. It is full weight, restored looking and heavy I'm sure. He put a ladder bar rear suspension under it and minitubbed it with widened stock Mopar Magnum 500 wheels. Very tastefully done. Buuuutt...all that power he makes can only drag a heavy unsorted car so far in a race. My car is just better at putting the ole 464's power to good use than his. That is why I beat him everytime I've messed with him so far. The current tube chassis version of the Apollo/Nova is in a whole different playing field and a race between us wouldn't be "fair" at all right now.

If I were having carb troubles I wouldn't go up against any serious muscle, so I'm taking it this guy just got stomped.

Man sounds like yall both have serious machines! I'd be plenty of proud with a 12 second car and I'd probably try to race anybody too. I doubt anyone runs 12s in this town. There are a few STOUT sounding MAch 1 mustangs though. I heard one hit 175 on interstate 35 according to the little radar speed signs the cops put out. Don't know if that's true or not but it sounds ROWDY.

They're supposed to run 13.3s. They look sharp but they look like they weigh 15 tons. 13.3 for a stock big ass car is nothing to be ashamed of. It's a 6.1 hemi with much more potential to be had.

I've seen new hemis get put down often on this site but no stock Buick has ever ran 13.3. And the SRT8 Jeeps run 12.9s. I've seen it, 100% stock.
