So I was going to get some grass seed earlier today, and I ran into a guy I know from high school. He was driving a 9th??? generation Mitsibishi Evo. I guess he just picked it up a couple of months ago. We chit-chatted for a few minutes about what he's done to the car... header(s?), exhaust, cam(s?), bigger turbo, and entire fuel system... says he's had it dyno'd pushing 400 to the tires. My immediate thought was hmm... that's about where I hope to be. So I challenged him to a race as soon as I feel my car is ready and he agreed. He said that "I can try"(in a arrogant sort of way, referencing racing) I just said "I don't think I'll really have to" and walked away . I don't really like the guy tbh but not getting into that. I'll try to get it done before the end of the year. Any Buicks out there raced an Evo on the street from a dig or roll?

... I'm pretty sure you don't want to go from a dig

that said, why don't you fill us in with your plans for the build ?

Some of the tuner cars are nothing to take for granted. Light cars + AWD, with a few bolt ons and a competent driver, those things can go! Good luck, looking forward to hearing about your build and updates !

I want to have my car setup more as a pro street car for now. (This won't have specifics just a general idea for the first build), 401, full roller, between 11 and 12:1, 93 octane, constant progressive vacuum referenced water/meth plate setup, at least a 150 shot of nitrous and maybe up to 200(progressive possibly, unsure yet) probably on a plate as well but I might drill and tap the intake, msd ignition(not sure which setup), single 4 barrel(unsure of brand or size), some casting cleaning and port matching to everything, long tube headers with electric cutouts directly after headers, cold air intake, unsure if i want a mechanical and electric pump separate or one electric, no power steering or a/c, built st400, strange s60 with a locker and 4.11's out back turning 275/60/15 drag radials, probably some nitto's because i've read those do well in the rain for the performance they give since I will drive the car daily even though I REALLY want to run Hoosiers since i'm from Indiana, and Hoosier slicks for the track. The car will be lightened some, but all steel. I hope to have the car in the mid to low twelves off the juice and about a second faster or more on the juice. I'm playing around with the idea and numbers of 455 rods with Tom's pistons on a stock crank for now and having a custom forged stroker crank with stock 401 rods later??? Other forged rods??? I will contact someone or make a thread on that a little later. Any other ideas you would like me to share for the car?

You don't need a "Custom" forged stocker. The stocker will do just fine.

Easy-peasy... When you two line up, crank your steering wheel towards him, and when the light goes green simply drive over his beer-can of a car.

    Buicks get hungry too!

I hear much over 10:1 is difficult to do on 93 octane without pinging. But maybe the water/meth injection you are talking about will cure that if you are running it on the street. I don't really know much about water/meth injection. Only really read up on it with diesels.

But overall the build sounds pretty nasty, good luck with it. As the Unlce likes to say, "The Nailhead is a real fickle b****".

I pulled on an evo8 on the highway in my land yacht..
Keep in mind. I have about 600 hp and 1300 lb/ft of tq under my foot..

He was running e85 with a garret gt35 turbo, cams header exhaust etc about 520 engine hp.. from about 50, i pulled him 2 seperate times and had him by a fender.. The only real reason i got him the first time, he had to shift.. and i put a fender on him. the second time i turned up the box and got a full car on him..

So if youcan trap 115 mph or better in the quarter, have at it, just not from a dig. they are dangerous down there.

Been repeated many times so now go to YouTube....not from a dig. For reference do a search GN vs.

Your car better grab asphalt quickly.

I did hear a rumor that suggested that either the evos or the wrx knock sensor get really messed up if an uncorked v8 is loud enough.:grin::grin: maybe worth a try.

... nor did it bother my wifes' Saab 9-2x Saabaru when she made the mistake of lining up next to BigRed at a traffic lite one time

Funny thing was, she's ridden in the GS many times and I've hammered it good with her in it; she also drove her Saabaru 157,xxx miles so she knows how to drive it well. I decided to do a full-tilt street leave on the green and run it all the way though 1st ..

.. the only thing she had to say when we both pulled in the driveway was "Is it really legal to drive a car that loud and that FAST on the street ?". Poor gal .. didn't stand a chance but I give her props for the head lights bobbing up and down every time she banged another gear

    :3gears:

btw .. her username on the saab 9-2x site was ChkWstk

I've run a couple of Evos but neither were built. Be warned though, as if it really does has 400 awhp, you could be looking at a high 10 second car. Some say don't go from a dig, but it's hard to launch a high HP awd car, coming from a WRX owner. If they don't get it quite right, they'll often bog on the launch or break all 4 loose and lift. If they get it right though, it's bad news for a heavy rwd car.

I raced an 700HP Evo a couple of times (non prepped tracks only), you can see it here in this video made 2 runs against the Evo.
Second run in the video is against a 850HP Honda.

I posted a "kill" a while ago regarding my neighbor and his Subaru STi. Beat him from a standing start. Beat him from a 30 mph roll. He then told me how they were putting a HUGE turbo on it and would wipe the street with me. That was about 3 years ago if I remember right. I'm still waiting for him to come over.

And even if he does get that massive turbo, from a stand still, I figure by the time he gets it spooled up, I'll be long gone down the road. Those cars are quick, but it still takes a fair amount to really get them fast and a competent driver also. Good luck.

As for your build, heads are really where the horsepower is. If you can swing it, at least get a pair of used Edelbrocks. And with all the torque you'll make, I don't think you'll need a 4.11 gear on the street. A 3.73 should be more than enough. That's what my car has and I still went to an overdrive transmission. My engine is has 10:1 compression, ported 430 heads and a not too aggressive cam (not as much as a TA413 even), SP1 intake and a Holley 950HP carb through headers. Easy peasy. My 11.86 was on street legal MT drag radials.
