WoW!....Kestone Skinny's. Haven't seen those except for the front of 60's-early 70's Super Stocker photo's.
Hope you'll post them all "set" & on your ride! :TU:

Well, at the rate I'm going, it should be finished just before I'm dead. I've got some tires picked out for the fronts, but I still don't know what I should run in the rear. The rears are 10 inchers, and I'm debating on having the centers set on 8 inchers when I get them rechromed.

Any suggestions on a period looking tire for the rears?

Props go out to Ramkat2 (Randy) for the fronts. Thanks again!

Oh, and I'm still looking for a pair of center caps to complete them.

Plan for Saturday is to strip and repaint the fronts, as well as polish the chrome. Pics to follow.

Well John, for an "Old School" look they now offer the Mickey Thompson's:
    http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/street.php?item=SportsmanST

The BFG Radial T/A's (front) and their original look DR's for the (rear): http://www.discounttiredirect.com/d...TgT!-2130650266!1816238737?cs=275&ar=60&rd=15

And if you need something that'll stick, these M & H's look like the Stock
Eliminator tire of the 70's while available in many widths.

    Or these: http://www.mandhtires.com/store.php?crn=73&rn=314&action=show_detail

I have the BFG Radial T/A's on the front, and BFG DR's on the rear of my GS.

Looking forward to seeing whatever you end up deciding to mount up on those Keystone's.... :TU:

    chryco63 14's or bust!

I really hope you're running bias plies on the front! :TU: That's one thing that I'm picky about on period-looking cars, as far as looks go: tires make a world of difference.

Nevertheless, looking forward to seeing the machine when it's finished!

I've looked at all the the tires and i still like the BFG T/A's........that's what i am putting on my Motor Wheel Spyder's........

    Plus.....they wear well :3gears:

Yeah, they make a world of difference in looks.

I'm planning on running the same exact tires on the front as Guy has on the Reynold's car. I can't find a good picture of the tires it's wearing now, only ones of the tires that were on it previously.

The best way I can describe it without a picture is: a ribbed Firestone blackwall.

I do like the look and function of these for the rears: http://www.mandhtires.com/store.php?crn=73&rn=314&action=show_detail

Simply because I want to drive this on the street, but still be able to hook it, and have it look somewhat period correct.

I'll have to do more shopping around. I do like the look of the big white-out letters of M/T's or M&H's, but it's a street car, not a full out race car.

I've had Keystones for years and there's one thing that's crucial. Any time you put the rims on the car you need to drive for 100 miles and retorque the lug nuts.

Mine have the dreaded uni-lugs which are worse but it's still important to remember. Particularly if you're going to launch the car.

I don't know why the aluminum in the Keystones seems more susceptible to expansion and contraction but I've always found several lugs have worked loose after the first 100 miles. I've never needed a third round of tightening.

Anytime you remove a wheel, do you pair up the same uni lug insert with the same lug slot?

    John and Ross,

Just for your information, the early Keystones ARE NOT unilug. One easy way to tell the old from the new.

As far as the unilug ones go, I've never had any of the lugs loosen up on the Camaro I had. Of course, they've only been off the car once since I put them on . . . about 9 years ago. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to check 'em anyhow.

Thanks, I never knew that, what was the cutoff point between old and new? It seems like they were always uni lung...

All of the info I've dug up points to that being the cutoff point. Early 70s is when they went unilug (I'm guessing '72 or '73).

I think when Cragar bought the brand is when they switched over to a different spoke and unilugs. They even manufactured them with "Cragar" center caps for at least one year.

There are at least 3 different style Keystone (Kustomag/ Klassic) wheels, and at least 5, maybe 6 different style caps. That's including everything manufactured to date. I haven't measured, but I think the early wheels have a center cap that is slightly larger than their newer brethren.

The early center caps look similar to the Cragar cap style, but with either a big Keystone logo block "K" with "Keystone" underneath it, or . . .

Some look like the Cragar cap, but with a script "K" on them. I've only seen advertisements from magazines with those script caps, and only one pair (with wheels) on ebay recently.

    Too much information . . . I know. :bla:

Well, with some time and patience, I managed to get about 95% of the black paint off. The other 5% I'll scrape by hand.

I used the high grade Superstrip, and I'm not so sure I like it. Took me 4 good coats of it over an hour and a pressure washer to take off most of the paint. Brush on, wait 15 minutes, pressure wash, repeat.

Who knows the best way to polish chrome? I've got a couple of good sized pits that I want to get rid of before they start taking over the entire wheels!

Progress pics. Black paint is coming soon. . .

Ok, I'm torn on paint choice. Should I go with the low-gloss black, or the cast finish aluminum?

I've seen both, and I don't know what I should do.
