Well Guy's, as you probably know, although the event last year was fun, the turnout was less than poor. I have some ideas that would make more economic sense.

As of now, nothing is scheduled for 2003 Great Plains Buick Challenge, however this can change with some commitment to the event. Here are some ideas:

    1) We would run the event in conjunction with a regularly scheduled weekend racing event at Kearney Raceway Park.

    2) Saturday would be the normal test and tune day which we can join in on. Regular gate fees would apply and we can do other cash racing programs throughout that day.

    3) Sunday we would join the regularly scheduled race day using their rules on classes. Kearney gate fees and class entries would apply here also.

The BPG will not fund a racing event such as last years complete 2-day exclusive track rental.

The weather is another factor. If you don't mind the heat.

I do think we can have this regional racing event in the Great Plains. It would be a good chance for everyone in that part of the country to get together and have fun.

I have received an email from the track owner just this week regarding this event. I will be willing to setup the schedule around the existing Buick events already scheduled for 2003.

Anyone interested, post here and let me know.

This is a big thumbs up for me, if we can come up with a date it would give us something to work with to get the word out. There were several guys last year that would have made it with more notice.:beer

    Re: Kearney

Mike Bucy, Has anybody brought up the possibility of an event at the Scribner Dragstrip? It's just a few miles NW of Omaha and is a very good track, in my opinion. Really good launches as evidenced by Todd Borlands 1.65 60' times.

It has been a few years since I was down the Kearney strip(1984 to be exact) but I remember that it wasn't that good of a track back then. I was down Scribner only 2 years ago with my Sub and found it to be really good track.

Just asking and throwing in my .02.

Incidentally, best times for the Sub were 16.98 @ 82.5 mph. I know, , but it has a stock 350 and weighs in at around 3 tons. If I remember correctly, the 60 foot times were in the 2.2 - 2.3 range. Not too bad for skinny little tires and a little wheel spin. 4:56 gears and a locker tends to get things a little sideways. . Always interesting to get sideways in a dang bus!!:TU:

    Thanks for listening.

Scribner is the better track, I know the owner and have talked to him about having something there, over a few :beer and about having it when someone else had there club there like the Mustang"s:spank: :spank: that is always on a regular track day.

    How about next week

Just kidding , got the new motor in and ready for the track to open.
Kearney was alot of fun but since a big part of the attendence was from the east, moving it to scribner which is closer to Lincoln miight be a viable option.
We should definitely piggyback the event with either a regular race day or test and tune day.

Another Idea is to Just pick a day and envite everyone to your local track. Heartland park has some pretty good races for all.And during the summer there is a cruise night somewhere in town every saturday night.

Todd, Mike and I will just have to come to Scribner some weekend and you are welcome anytime down this way.

I will be game to head over to meet some of the Buick crazies that lurk here. If the 73 is in good enough shape I might even bring it.

    another vote for Scribner

They also have a better concesion stand, and if you want to get in a little test and tune they have Friday Night Street Races nearly every Fri night. Its a run what you brung grudge race kind of thing (if that makes any sence)

I would be up to either place. Both are good. I have ran slightly better at Schribner. Mike I know you though last year was a low turn out, but I have been involved in Buicks in the Omaha area for over 20 years and never seen 30+ at a track before, here in the area. Bill

    Kearnet Race

    Hi all

well i guess i should put my 2 cents in.

we have a club race in pueblo colorado every year sept usually. the first few years were very thin 15- 20 cars or so. i believe this year will be the 10th running last year we had 100+ cars.

i have been talking to some of the club members about traveling to Kearney for the GPC. tried to make last years event but as always already had plans so we could not attend.

Omaha sounds like a great track, but Kearney is 6 hrs from denver.
i believe this is the reason you see all the eastern cars Omaha would be maybe 10 hrs or so pulling a car with wife and kids for only 2 days:wife will blast: my:moonu: .

would attend anyway no matter where the event is at. i cant speak for the other 10 club members i have talked with.
will try this week and let mike know the # of cars

we have some pics on the web site of the past races enjoy

    thanks again for all input
