Sorry to be antsy, and maybe trick a few people with the title, but I know after the Nats an engine with these heads strapped to it was probably run on a dyno somewhere in the continental US. Are there any results from witnesses there or the man in charge himself about power numbers or related awesome information? Even a story about the struggle of not hanging it on the dyno would be preferable, being in the dark is not fun
JW has videos and way more info than me. It wouldn't surprise me if he's typing up a report right now. I took a couple videos. I'll see if I can get one to load. My internet is painfully slow at the shop.
ok 2 questions, first one is kind of jokingly, are those mismatched carbs? maybe it's an allusion but they dont look to have the same main body. the second is where did you find a crank trigger kit to fit our bolt pattern.....I want to put one on my motor but cant find one and am about to buy a universal kit to have it drilled
We used a Chebby unit on a "Nail" using a BHJ balancer for a 455. Using the 3 bolt holes of the Chebby it bolted right on.
I will be putting the full buildup post with dyno sheets, videos and lots of pictures together this weekend. I have been busy working on the next big HP Tomahawk, this one with a centrifical supercharger.. we just squeezed in this dyno test, because everyone was dying to see the numbers. Ben, Yes, different carbs... dual carb testing was really just an afterthought initially, the customer we set this up for wanted to run his single E-85 1250 Pro Systems Dominator on a regular basis, the dual dommy testing was something we did to give us an idea of the engines potential, I did not have a pair of 1050's, so I used a 1050 and an 1150, both known carbs. Since I was not tuning to "the last possible hp" on this trip, it was no big deal. Total fuel usage was confirmed by the dyno's lambda sensors to be "in the ballpark". That is all we were after, in this session.. The dual carbs were worth 90 HP on this engine... mainly because it is an intake not really designed for a single carb. To run a single carb and even get close to the head's potential, we have to build a different top for the intake.. if he wants all the HP we can muster with one carb.. it does not want just the flat plate.. Crank trigger is custom made from this.. so your on the right track.. https://www.holley.com/products/ignition/crank_triggers/crank_trigger_kits/parts/8655 I beleive that Mike G (shortcrank) and Ken Betts will eventually be putting together a bolt on crank trigger kit, I know it's "on the list" of race parts for development.
It bolted to the front of the crank on the harmonic balancer. The Buick balancer uses 6 bolts. The Chev. uses 3 bolts. They line up. What I suggest is you use one 3/8ths. bolt, once you have everything set, in place of the 5/16ths. this way IF you take it apart you can put it back together correctly or else you could use one of 6 bolt holes whereas one is only correct.Makes no diff. on diameter.
