Mine sits taller but I have 255-60-15 all around on mine. More than enough clearance for. Headers. 225-70-14 is a fairly tall tire. Measure from ground to lower control arm and enging crossmember . Should give you a decent idea of clearance.

The lowest point on the control arms is about 4" from the ground. Engine crossmember is just about 5"

    Yes clearance wouldn't be much.

Your car is lower than mine. I have lots of clearance. The MT headers hang lower than other headers.

My car has stock springs all the way around. My tires are taller though. I have P255/60R-15 up front (27") and P275/60R-15 out back (28").

Whoever told you that, well, I wouldn't listen to anything else he told me. The optional tire for the 70-72 GS was a G60-15. The P245/60R-15 is almost an exact match for the G60-15. As mentioned, I have 255 up front and 275 out back. P235/60R-15 are too small IMO.

Well I like the idea of getting as wide a tire as I can fit on the skinny little 15x7s, as long as it won't wear them out faster or impede handling.
I think it'd look really cool to have smaller front and larger rear, but they will be the same on all 4 corners so I can rotate em since it's a DD.

What's the biggest size tires you guys think would fit without wearing weird or rubbing maybe?

I run 235-60-15 up front and 255-60-15 out back on 15x7's. It's commonly said that 275-60-15 is the largest you can go on 15x7's. I had 275-60-15's on a 15x8 and there was a pretty good mount of bulge. I think they *could* fit 7's from what I've seen, but youre gonna have a pretty wicked side bulge. But different strokes and such.

And I'm with Larry, whoever said you can't run larger than 235's or it'll cause uneven wear, well, I'd run, not walk from his garage....

Sounds like I'll be making a choice between 245s or 255s when it comes time.
Just wondering whether or not the 255s will bulge a little much..

Heres what 245s look like on my 68. I wouldn't worry about too much bulge from a 255. I think either would look great [IMG]

    255 is perfect on 15x7.

I know in tire conversion charts they say a G-60 compares to a 245. Radials are measured differently. The height is near the same and maybe the section width. Tread width is much wider on the G-60. Its around 8.5" actual. The actual rubber on the road is even greater with the Polyglass with their much smaller gaps between the treads versus the snow tire like gaps on radials.

First, a P245/60R-15 fits easily on a 15 X 7" rim. It is virtually the same size as a G60-15. The G60-15 came as original equipment on the 70-72 GS. It is NOT too big, and it will not wear funny. Having said that, a 275 tire IS too big for a 7" wide rim, it should be mounted on an 8" wide rim. You can put it on a 7" wide rim, but it can pull the edges of the tread up.

Tire bulge has way more to do with inflation pressures than rim width. if the tire is under inflated, it will bulge more. There is a lot of misinformation about proper tire pressure out there, and the tire manufacturers are no help. How many of you have ever looked on the sidewall of the tires for the tire pressure specs? Listed on the side of the tire is a maximum inflation pressure. The maximum pressure is listed for the maximum load the tire can support at that pressure. Back in 1970, tires commonly had a maximum pressure listed as 32 psi. In the chassis manual, the recommended tire pressure for the GS455 with an 1100 lb load ( 1-6 passengers and 200 pounds of luggage) was 28 psi front and rear. Tire pressure recommendations ranged from 22-32 psi for other models depending on the anticipated loads. Now this is important, the maximum pressure listed on the side of tires has been going up since then. First, it went up to 35 psi. Now, it is common to see 44 psi, and even 51 psi. The maximum load at that pressure has NOT changed substantially though. That has led many people to under inflate their tires. The Cooper Cobra tires on my 70 GS have a 44 psi maximum inflation pressure. Back in 70, Buick recommended 28 psi. If you run 28 psi in a 44 psi tire, it will be seriously under inflated. The tire will bulge excessively and the handling will be squirmy. What I do is use a proportion to figure out what the proper pressures should be. 28 is to 32 what "X" should be to 44, 28/32 = X/44. Cross multiply and solve for X. X = 38.5 psi. I run 39 psi in my Cooper Cobras. The car does not ride hard, and it handles great. The Yokohama Avid TRZ tires on my 98 Riviera have 51 psi listed as the maximum pressure. Back in 1998, tires commonly had a 35 psi maximum pressure. Buick recommended 30 psi front and rear. Again, using a proportion to find the correct pressure for a 51 psi tire, 30/35 = X/51. X = 43.7 psi. I run 44 psi. The car does not ride hard and handles great.

Yes, The Bias-Ply tires had a different construction than the Radial-Ply tires. Radial tires bulge at the contact patch and the tread actually goes up onto the shoulder of the tire. The Bias-Ply tires have a flatter tread.

I also run a P255/60R-15 on my 7" wide rims. They look great.

    I screwed up.
That Pypes system with the violator mufflers was a mistake.
It's loud. I'm gonna draw the wrong kind of attention very quickly. Just taking off casually from a red light sounds like I'm mashing the pedal.
There is also an awful drone. I may be able to deal with that, at least for the time being, if I adjust my driving a bit.

The worst part is, it sounds like ****!
It would be one thing if it was ungodly loud but had a nice tone, but it seriously sounds like completely uncivilized sloppy ****.
"Hey guys, here comes the garbage truck!" Just like a goddamn semi truck going up a steep grade..

I am so pissed off right now. I'm already well past my budget for the exhaust because of manifold issues, and now I'm gonna have to chalk up another couple hundred probably for different mufflers. I knew it was gonna be loud. I knew it was supposed to be loud. There is no way I could have expected them to sound like this, like a friggin truck, from any of the video clips out there.

If I can figure out how to do it, I'll try to make a couple clips so you guys can hear what I mean.

Yep, i did way back in the begining. I absolutely love my Dynomax Ultraflos. Sounded good when it was a stock 350, and sounds even better now with heads and a crower level3 cam.

The dynomax superturbos are good. Have them on my 84 Grand National. Kinda loud for a turbo v6 so should sound great on a v8. Won't be too loud. Won't sound like a truck either.

I like the real muscle car hot rod sound.. And so i went with a 3inch x pipe setup from summit and also the 2chamber summit mufflers... Its a beast.

Magnaflow mufflers are the ones I like... I have used them on lots of vehicles and they always sound nice... Not too loud, no drone, good muscle car sound without the racket.

Matt, that clip of yours is rather short, but I do like what I hear. Do they ever have a drone?
Does anyone have some drive-by sound clips?
I'm leaning towards the Dynomax Ultraflos. From what I can gather, people seem to say the superturbos and magnaflows and are pretty quiet in comparison to the ultraflos.

I too have the summit 2 chambers currently and am very pleased with the sound. I had magnaflows and didn't hate them, just wasn't quite the tone at wot I was looking for. Idle and cruise sounded good. But I tried the summits (it was a low risk given the killer price!) and am happy with them.
