Guys- I'm headed west in March to Tempe Az. One goal of the trio is to find a 1/4 panel for my 66 Jetstar. I know I can call desert valley auto parts but I'd rather get off the beaten path. Any leads? I won't have the time to hunt around. I need to arrange a deal where it's already cut off and I pick it up. Any leads appreciated.
There is a place called Hidden Valley Auto Parts in Maricopa, the SW metro area of Phoenix. They have a bunch of old cars there that I have had shipped to me in the past. I checked google, they are still there. hiddenvalleyautoparts.com
You need to contact some locals in some cities (towns?) along your planned route. I don't know how much time you have available, but there are so many old classics just sitting in yards (even visible from the Interstate and highways) that spending a little time in these areas driving around, inquiring and knocking on a few doors would yield some cars and parts to keep or resell.
There are 2 yards in Tucumcari, NM . 1 south of 40 1 north of 40, you can see both from I40 East side of town
Desert Valley likely has the largest selection, especially the sixties full size Buick. Probably Oldsmobile too. There is a neat yard in Hereford AZ, just south of Sierra Vista but it seems thin on older cars does have a lot of good square body truck parts (73 - 80). You might? Want to check them out, they don't allow customers to walk unescorted but will drive you through yard.
Jason McClure, aka Desert Car Kings, aka Desert Valley either owns all the classic car junk yards or has a business understanding with them. I've known him and his family for 25 years. Best call ahead and ask.
We came across rt 40. There was snow all the way to flagstaff with some accumulations on the road. We stopped there for lunch. We were maybe 20 miles south on 17 and it was gone. An hour later the windows were down. 2950 miles in 5 days..
What took you so long to drive that far? That's a 2 day run. Jenn just got back from Flagstaff last week. They had 40" of snow just before she got there.
We were taking it easy. 75 mph or so and driving 8-10 hours a day. Made a pit stop in Kansas to pick up some scout parts. We're taking it all in. Cool trip so far. The olds is running like a top. It's chugging a bit in the higher altitudes though. Should have packed a lean carb..
