How do you make a jump wire from your starter to a the battery to get a car running.

    Nailhead engine.

How do you do it? And safely too.

12v to + terminal on coil. Attach just prior to starting, disco as soon as you shut off the engine if the engine will stay off.

Twelve volts to the starter (if it is wired, you can short across the solenoid large terminal to ground).

Make sure the engine/starter/coil is all grounded back to the battery - post. (normal grounds), and make sure you use heavy gauge wire for the starter power.

And maybe Cap'n Obvious, but make sure nothing is loose, that can get caught in fan, belts and such. As well as out of gear.

A remote starter switch is a nice thing to have anyway and is not that much at the parts store.

If you apply 12 volts to the "S" terminal, the starter will crank the engine. If you have the key in the run position, the engine will start. I can do it with a screwdriver by shorting between the big lug(+ battery cable) on the starter and the "S" terminal, but it usually sparks some. That's why a remote start switch is handy to have.
