A mans word is his bond. When you agree to something, you stick to it.

Jim wanted to sell his trailer. I called him around the second week of May and told him that I wanted to buy it. We subsequently agreed on a price which included him transporting it down to me. I told him to just let me know a few days in advance of when he comes down so I can go to the bank.

Jim IM's me and tells me to head over to the bank because he's headed down here. Cool. I head out the bank on the 24th and get a cashier's check with his name on it. Only problem is that Jim is a no show.

Jim did tell me that he was going to be very busy with work for the next couple of weeks, so I figured he just got tied up. I assumed he would call me when he's freed up. He knows my number and he always IM's me. I was really excited to finally step up to an enclosed trailer. Especially an Exiss like Jim's. Ive always admired it and told everyone it about when I struck the deal with him. Because it was a "friend" and a fellow Buick buddy, I thought it was a done deal, a sure thing. to me, it was as good as mine. I made a deal, I had the money, I was just waiting for it to get here.

Today I call him to find out whats going on with the trailer. He tells me that he sold it because he got more for it from someone else. What?

First of all, that is not something you do. Period. Especially to someone you consider a friend. That was a real dick thing to do to me. I didnt even get the courtesy of a phone call to give me the opportunity to at least meet the other person's offer. That would of still been a dick thing to do to someone but not as bad as just selling it out from under me. He didnt even have the balls to call me after the fact to tell me. I had to call him to find out.

I wound up selling my restored 1957 Tokheim gas pump and was this close to selling off my 18' open trailer because of all this. All because I took Jim at his word.

Jim has put a price on my friendship. My friendship was only worth $800 to him. I hope Alex will be very happy with his new trailer Jim. Thanks for absolutely nothing.

You and I are no longer friends.

That is not cool Jason. Maybe a better deal will come your way.

Yup, I've always believed that everything happens for a reason. Hang in there, it'll become clear to you when you find a better deal on an even nicer trailer

That was really rotten. A DEAL IS A DEAL!! Amazing what people will do for a couple of extra bucks. Not even worth it. Bet that Tokheim will be a little hard to replace. I had a Fry Visible 5 gallon gravity feed gas pump that I really wish I had not have sold. It was for a similar deal so I know where you are coming from Jason.

Reminds me of the other side. Went and looked at a 54 Ford, all I had looked at was junk, so I didn't bother taking any money along. When I got there, I knew it was the one:bglasses:

Bought it on a handshake and the guy delivered it, I didn't know the guy and have never seen him again.

I'll always remember that day and always try to live up to high standards.

    Too bad not everyone does:spank:

Sometimes your the bug sometimes your the windshield.

Nobody wants to take less than they can get. I have honored deals where I paid too much and deals where I have sold for too little.

That sucks that you had to sell your restored gas pump for nothing now - I hope that you find another enclosed trailer from someone who sticks to his deal.

I am not sure it's fair to air one's dirty laundry, but I do think it would be fair to let Jim address this issue before the pile-on starts happening, doncha think?

I KNOW I could get more for stuff, but sometimes it makes me feel better knowing its going onto another Buick-lovers car at a less-than market price. A couple of bucks more to somebody on Ebay I will never meet doesn't mean that much to me. A deal is a deal. My 2 cents.

It's a SMALL world, and what goes around...
Jason, you will find a similar or better deal on a trailer - just keep looking.
It seems Jim is the real loser here.

Im not sure what this has to do with anything Scott. I dont know what kind of deal the seller of those control arms had. I didnt know what "interested" meant to him. Only the seller knew. And as you know, Craigslist is chock full of people that are interested but never call you back. I certainly dont fault the person that bought the trailer. My problem is with Jim who agreed to sell it to me thats all.

If it was a stranger, I'd be a little miffed, but it was someone I considered a friend. It just stings a little more thats all

:ball: "The deal ain't done 'til the money changes hands". This happens all the time in my business. It's no big deal, it's just business.

I'm sure I'll suffer the wrath of the board, but to me, just an unconnected reader of a forum who doesn't know anyone here, it seems that it was you that decided to end a friendship over, what was it, $800? Did your friendship hinge on this one deal? If so, were you really a friend?

Throwing someone under the bus because they decided to get top dollar for their stuff is uncool to me. Geez, people are starving out here.
