Driving to work in a loud Vette

    Bill:

I hear what you're saying on driving to work at 5:00 AM in a good sounding Vette. Years ago at Olds Engineering, I built a 60 Vette with a 12.5 to 1 301 (bored out 283) that had JR headers and glass paks with baloney cut tailpipes that exited in front of the rear wheels. Not side pipes, but equally loud and sweet sounding.

It had a lightwieght Schaeffer aluminum flywheel and really revved fast with the high compression (barely started, had a solid lifter cam in it). KInda like the rap, rap, rap sound from a race motor (which is what it was).

I only drove it to work for about a month, but my wife used to love to fire it up in the garage while I was finishing up dressing and warm it up in the driveway. Easy to brush your teeth when you're smiling from ear to ear. That ride in to work with no traffic sure started my day off right! :TU:

I can vividly remember the summer that my 69 Torino died and I drove the Vette to work every day.

(did I mention this was when I was 20 and skinny ??)

Oh man, nothing like hitting 120 on 696 to start the trip home.........

to this day I swear I live just to accellerate under an overpass with the top down

    topic moved

Seeing as how J.C. Whitney side pipes have absolutely nothing to do with our Stock Appearing theme, this topic has been moved to the BENCH forum.

    Thank you for your understanding...

I used to drive a 79 Trans Am to work everyday until the accident happened :ball: ...anyway...it had a 70 LT1 350 under the hood, with hooker comp headers 2 1/2" exhaust flowing through Summit 30 dollar mufflers (welded seam type...flow master look alikes...dual exhaust of course :Brow: ) This car was LOUD!! I would love just startin it up in the morning, and takin off with the kids at the bus stop staring me down. Well to make a long story short...got another one, but this time its got single chamber flow masters on a full 3" exhaust and the car has 4:11's in it, so you tell me how my NEW T/A sounds  . I dont drive it everyday anymore (too much on gas) , but when I take it out, everybody knows it me. It so loud, when I was doin 25 going to my speed shop with it, it set off car alarms all the way down the street....its loud, but its a toned loud...sounds really mean when your driving it. Mustang's dont want to play with me anymore :(   .
