With the starter in place (bolted on) take flat screw driver and move the starter gear onto the flywheel can you fit a paper clip into the "valley" of the flywheel tooth?

It does shounds to me that you will need to install a small spaceer/shim to get the starter to release.

I talked to bob about this. He said he'd need a .200 shim. That's more than 1/8". Seems extreme. He's got another starter he's going to try.

That seems to be a bunch.

    Never seen that far off.

There are some 455 flexplates being sold which are of spec. Perhaps you have one.

He has my flexplate that came off my car for the 4 speed conversion. It's a factory piece.
