I've been trying to sell this for years. No takers.

I'm going to pull off the wheels and air ride and save those. Trying to make it look more stock. Very limited to no audience on this one.

I'm thinking a maroon since it has white interior. I may keep the white just on the roof.

But I need to find a left fender. I modified both fenders I had for the air ride... Removed the lip since I wasn't using the fender wells.

    Farewell to the Orange......

    That's a sharp looking car.
I don't think its the color combo, it may be your asking price.
The color or appearance will draw people in, but its usually the asking price that's a deal or no deal.
    Have you gotten any offers?

Of course the price has something to do with it. I avoid car flippers. If I want to give it away it would be gone by now. But I have some money in it. Anyway you cut it I'm going to lose at this point.

I had it on CL and facebook.

I got trade offers but I have no need for other people's junk. And I mean junk Honda or 300k mile trucks.

Some wanted just the body or parts of the body. One wanted the car without the motor. Some guts just wanted the wheels.

One person stopped multiple times asking if I had impala brake parts....his dad lives in the neighbor hood. Stopped by and I told him $7500 today the way it sits with all the new stuff I bought.

He comes back and wants to look at the car. He told me he had cash money and would give me a down payment right now. I told him $7500. He then started telling me that he wanted me to do labor. Every time he told me what he wanted the price went up.

He didn't even want to give me the $7500 but he wanted me to buy a bunch of stuff and install it and charge less. I told him with everything he wanted it would be $12500. He said he doesn't have that kind of money.

He then said let him know because he can go down to his dad's and get 2k for a deposit. He gave me his number to call him if I decided to take his 2k down payment. Well he's still waiting. I haven't seen him since.

10 years ago I would have been done and parted it or just cut it up for scrap. Too old for that now and I want the $$$.

I'm just thinking if I paint it maroon and take off the less practical stuff it may sell.

I wouldn't paint a car like that just to sell it.
As sure as you do someone will come and say they'd buy it if it wasn't maroon.
Obviously, you can do what you want, it's your car.
You can hardly ever figure people and you certainly can't please them.
Take the money you would spend on painting it and adjust the price.
As you said, you're already losing money.
Just gotta hope you had some time to enjoy the car while you had it.
Personally, when I make a decision to sell something, whatever the reason, I sell it.
One way or another. I start high and drop the price until it sells.
If I don't care one way or the other about selling it, I keep the price high and keep enjoying it.

These are my opinions, based on my experience.
Please don't read in anything derogatory because I'm just offering opinions.

    Good Luck!!

Never put money into something your going to sell, just take that off your asking price. Let's say your asking 10k paint is 5k, now just ask for 5k.

The guy asking if you will take 5k has 7k, somethime you got to meet in the middle. Remember it takes 2 people to complete the sale. Sometimes you gotta take a loss but I think what you are doing is smart in taking the less practical stuff off and selling it too.

Many times when I buy a car I tell the seller OK how much for it with out the rims, stereo system and "all that stuff your bragging about" .

Beautiful car by the way and hang in there.

Paint it burgundy and your gonna fall in love with it and keep it. Once you go burgundy you don't go back lol

Unfortunately I don't enjoy this car or any of the other Buicks anymore. I just walk around it/them. I've sold my Buicks that were nice and road worthy. All I have left are pushers and projects.

I tried selling off all of the cars and parts as a package deal locally and not one inquiry. So I started hitting EBay hard with the stuff.

6 cars and a ton of parts. I was asking $25k for all.........sold 2 cars and parts at about twice my package deal price. I have 4 cars left and plenty of parts.

I would live to have a cleaned out garage.

Just figured maroon or resale red would be good to attract a buyer.

Anything blue I've had a hard time selling.

Unfortunately I'm Not good at bending. Once somebody low balls me That's it..... I shut down.

The gallon of paint will cost me about $500.....I already have the clear coat. It would just be my time involved.

If it doesn't leAve here I never lose any money ....LOL

What I have going is a fine example of buying too much stuff . I but stuff I like and sometimes I'm the only guy that does like it.

The previous owner had it painted. He had $24k invested in it. The shop closed down and he had to hunt down his car. Front end was missing. The engine was at the rebuilder and the prior owner paid for it twice. Once to the body shop and then the rebuilder since the body shop never forwarded the money. They never found the trans or back glass etc. It had blue interior.......all the chrome was junk and pitted.

I included the rebuilt motor with another 1965 Skylark I sold last summer. The engine was sitting for a long time. I was tired if moving it around.

Someond will want it at some point.

You're right about maroon....I bought this car a couple if years ago. Turn the key and go.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

I have a lot of stuff to sell as well. I just dread listing it because I don't suffer fools either. I used to sell cars as a profession and had to bite my tongue 'til it bled dealing with aholes. I represented the dealer and had to suck it up. If the aholes bought elsewhere, who won? Now, its my stuff and I stopped the bleeding. I'll scrap it first.

I agree. I try to find the guy that really wants my cars not the guy that wants to flip it.

Don't get me wrong I flipped cars but around by me most guys are flippers.

My 2 cents. I'm not too excited about the orange myself. A more popular color might sell better, but who knows for sure.
If you are doing the paint job yourself, it might be a good investment. If you are going to pay 5k to 10k to get it painted, it might be an even bigger loss to be able to sell it.
But then again, here I am with almost 8 years working on my '64 Skylark, and still need to get it painted. I don't do paint and body, so I have to save for that work. And then at the mercy of a body shop, hoping they will get it done in a decent time frame. It would have been nice to have bought my car with nice paint, but with a tight budget, I couldn't afford to get one already done. A buyer with a bigger budget might really like the idea of not having to worry about paint work down the line.

So it boils down to how expensive it is for you to do, or get the work done, to make it a complete car. And then the right buyer coming along.

Leave it the way it is.
If people don't like the car (Buick) or wheels, or engine, or interior, or color, they can move on.
Its not like they can go to the Buick dealer and buy one with a red body, black vinyl top with black interior, 4 speed with air.
Tell 'em this is the last one I have in stock, and its the last of this body style:D

Fortunately I can paint it myself. Been in the auto body " field " since 18.....now 49.
I'm just thinking this car us too radical for most. All I need to buy is the basecoat.... The rest is already here.

Not much trim on the car to pull off.... I'll fix a couple of small things and scuff and shoot it.

    1972Mach1 Just some M.M.O.G. guy.....

I think you're doing the right thing......I think the orange is cool, but most guys that would be into a 60s Buick probably don't. Just go down and look at the "leads" section to see what guys's comments are about not wanting or buying:rolleyes: a car because of the color, or the wheels, or the interior, etc. People think painting a car is a big deal (it is), but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. For most guys it would be.....Paint it a version of red, silver, or black, and watch it go away. As you said, you're only time and materials away from an easy sell, and you'll probably make 2 or 3 grand more.

Or just paint it all white. Paint cost would be less than the Maroon/red.
Maroon/white 2-tone would look nice, but the seller has to like it. White has a universal appeal, a more classic look.

I agree. The issue with all white.....with white interior it would look like a Miami Vice car........

I like white myself and the price is right for the paint but that color us also associated with being a " Bondo bucket".

Whatever I do I have to try and do it soon before the bugs are too bad here. I'd be picking it sanding them out of the clear coat.
