Correct: reverse, directional, and brakes. I saw the pink and green but couldn't get to it. And what would cause there to be a failure of power going there?

I'm working on getting schematics for the skylark.

The pink wire goes back to the fuse block. It gets its power from the 20A directional/ back up light fuse.

I Had A Similar Problem With My Car,turns Out It Was The Turn Signal Switch, which Is Still Available Through Gm Direct.i Paid Under Twenty Dollar And It Fixed All The Light Gremlins.our Cars Take The Switch Without Cornering Lights.its Not Hard To Install Eithier.remove Steering Wheel And Gently Slide Switch And Harness Out.i Had Issues With Back Up Lights, only One Side Brake Lights Were Working.i Thought It Was The Body Connection And After Cleaning And Messing With It For 15 Minute And It Not Going Away.i Turn To The Switch In The Column......my 2 Cents!!!

Thanks dreeesh. I have had problems with the mechanical part of the switch where it wouldn't want to go back to neutral after turning right. Just another one of those things I'd be replacing sooner or later.

Thanks for the link. I looked for it on GM Direct but the website told me they aren't carrying resto parts right now. Hmmm.

Could anyone give me the basics for how to replace the switch. It's looking a bit tricky.

You Need To Remove The Steering Wheel And Detent Plate, then Remove Canceling Cam.you,ll See Switch Which Is Held In With Three Screws.(remember To Remove The Hazard Knob And Turn Signal Arm)then Disconnect The Plug In For The Switch, turn It So Its Parallel To The Wires And Crefully Pull It Through The Column,it Should Have A Plastic Sleeve On It So It Wont Bind When Going Through The Column.installation Is Opposite Of Removal....hope That Helps:tu:

Alright. I have the steering wheel off. I'm not sure what the detent plate or the canceling cam are but I have hit a wall. Like I said, the wheel is off, along with the what the center cap attaches to (detent plate?). I removed the nut on the center screw thing but still can't seem to get the black piece, where the wheel attaches to, to come of. Is this the canceling cam? And whatever it is, how do I Get it off? So close yet so far. Thanks guys.

Use George's website page for some pictures. You need a steering wheel hub depressor to remove the lock plate. Once the lock plate is removed, you can access the turn signal switch.

    http://www.buickperformance.com/tiltsteeringcolumnwobble.htm

Or you can look at section 90-48 of your service manual on how to remove the signal switch

Does "Or" mean the service manual does it in a way where the hub depressor tool isn't mandatory?

Sorry, you'll need a hub depressor either way. Lisle makes one. Im sure K-D makes one too. Any good auto parts store should stock it. A set of picks is good to have as well to work the snap ring out of its groove.

Alright Jason, thanks for the tips.

Jason, I cannot seem to find any steering wheel hub depressors. I googled Lisle and K-D and the only thing that comes up is Pedal Depressors, or steering wheel holders. Is there a specific website or link you can direct me to? Sorry for all the trouble.

And so the basic idea of the tool is to press the pressure plate down to get the snap ring out, then remove the plate?

Alright I found the tool at O'Reilly. They called it the Steering Wheel Lock Plate Remover. Anyway I brought it home and realized that I still can't use it and that I'm still at a brick wall. I just took the steering wheel off and this is what I see (picture attached). Do you guys know how I get passed this step? Thanks a lot.

You only took off a portion of the steering wheel:pp . That is the hub of the steering wheel. You need a steering wheel puller to remove that from the splines of the column's shaft. Once that comes off, the lock plate is underneath. Make sure you mark the hub and the shaft, so the wheel isnt crooked when you reassemble it

C'mon....you didnt think it was going to be easy did ya? Took bad your so far away. I love doing columns.

Sadly I did think it would be easy. Darn! Here's a link to O'Reilly's website and I just want to make sure I am thinking of the correct part.

    Is this it?

That should do it. I see you have a tilt column. Is the column tight? Does it feel "loose" at all towards where it pivots?
