It all started when I wanted to remove the fender to fix some dents

    On my rusty wagon I wanted to remove the drivers fender. I needed to take the molding off ..... Back side has nuts. I had it off about 7 years ago.... Well the bolts rusted. The upper and lower rear cage nuts were just spinning.

    Cut the pillar open and fix and reweld. ...had the door off ....well started stripping and fixing dings. Then the sand blasted came out.

    One thing leads into the next.

    I'm ready to sand blast the pillar jambs.

    I guess I better get back to the fender which I wanted to finish fixing.

    Once you get to the point of removing the bellhousing bolts from the transmission, stop. :p:D
     
  4. be careful, that's how I ended up doing a frame off on my 65. was supposed to be a driver while I tinker with it project

    This was last week....just gonna sand the hood and prime it.

    Turned into a patching project.

    Yep, what started for me as an investigation of a lifter tic, lead to buying a 455 off eBay, then separating the body from frame. Had I stuck with original the "plan" I would have had this thing on the road driving a looooong time ago. 11 years since I bought my 'Lark and I've only driven it on and off a trailer. o_O:mad::(

    Man Brian, you look like that guy from NZ's twin with the gas mask on! What a job! At least you have the luxury (??) of a sandblaster... Im still rubbing two sticks together and I haven't seen any big savings on my insurance either! Ill be happy to commiserate with you! Stay at it right? That sucks that the cowl panel with the hinge bolt plate was gone, but a decent template and youll be cooking again. Make sure you run a tap through those holes and oil the bolts. Fingertips beat wrenches all day long! ws

    Good times here....Never seize will be on the bolts 4 sure. I don't think the cage nuts will be a problem for me again. Well at least in my lifetime. Both cage nuts were there and the bolts were seized and just started spinning. I dropped a hole through the fender and pillar and put a screw driver in there to try to stop the nut from spinning. No dice. I had to cut the lower bolt off and cut the fender flange off.

    This is my second harbor freight sand blaster. Real low quality stuff. The first one was like a pressure pot..held like 69 it 80 lbs if sand . It worked great on the first project......then....started falling apart. Sold it for $20 of Facebook market place.

    Current one is a dual tank.... Sand and soda blaster combo. It's about to take a dump. The valves don't last long and the hoses are cracking and ready to go. It needs so e maintenance for sure .

    They do come in handy though. I do still have my mini Sand blast gun. That works well on small parts.

    I never got back to the driver's fender. Maybe today.

    Had the HF unit too... it was "meager" at best. I used it for small spots on my boat hull. Sold it at Peotone in 2009. Before that was a LeRoi 100CFM gas trailered unit with a 300 LB pressure pot. That was all overkill. Any blasting needed to be done outside with all the noise and dust etc. the neighbors hated me in Darien! Im down to a suction antique DeVilbiss that again, is for spot work at best.

    I thought those caged nuts were like all three on a floating captured plate. Lotsa wiggle room. ws

    I can't count the times I've started a weekend "fix" that turned into a year long issue!

    Here's a simple little upgrade that got out of control...

    Just gonna put this small blower I picked up on the Mustang so Vinny has a fun car to drive around the country to play ball. Fast forward 18 months...

    Fully forged 9:1 short block.
    Fully ported heads & custom cams.
    Long tube headers and full 3" exhaust.
    Remap ECM and have two programs in the SCT controller
    Huge aluminum radiator
    ProForce Transmission, Mcleod sintered clutch and pressure plate.
    KB blower with manifold water to air inter-cooler (16# boost), 60# injectors, 400 liter fuel pump and Meth spray for good measure.
    Adjustable four link suspension, air bags, aluminum driveshaft, forged axles and pumpkin girdle.
    315/35/17 MT Streets with a complete new braking system.

    Run low 11's/high 10's

    Vinny's wife says sell it boy!

    No way toots, I have it back in the garage. He'll want it back some day. Love dad...

    A slipping transmission turned into a 4 year long frame-off for me one time so.....

    So far the left fender I started this production with isn't finished yet.

    Ahhh maybe tomorrow.
