It's all been faked. it's not real. That's not how they stamped them back then. Let me know your address and I'll go cart all that scrap iron away for you ;-)
Mark, that is great to know about the marking. At this time I don’t plan on doing much to the engine other than replacing what is broken or wore out. I’d like to keep it as original as possible and I’d like to keep it around for another 50 years. Ha, Larry! Spoken like a true addict. I won’t judge to much, the gentleman I purchased this from has a 401 for sale. I almost feel compelled to complete a family. The wife says I already have one though.
If that's an 091 cam it is about the most desirable factory big Nailhead cam. Nailhead cams have been discussed here before. I haven't had much success with researching on this site - the fault is mine, not the site's; If you are better then I at it, you can find everything that you want about Nailhead cams here.
Open the PSF file and read nformation that was written by Denny Manner. Then look at the specs at the spec sheet at the bottom of the page. The 091 has no different specs that the other 425 cams. Denny told me that this is not a Duntov design, that's a myth based on the coincidence of the last three digits with the Chevy cam. The only difference is the width of the groove at the front of the cam which has nothing to do with the grind.
