I have a motor that is stamped with an L and an X, but it is spaced strange on the block. The L and X are separated.
The complete number is LX341 on the passenger side and 5H924510 on the drivers side.
The motor cast is 1364704 which I know is a 425 block.
    The heads castings are 119614.
The intake is cast with 1370316B.
It has two four barrel Carter’s but I can’t seem to find a difinitive ID #.
If you look at the photos, the L and X are spaced funny. I initially thought maybe some one had ground off the original and restamped, but there is no difference in height between the two sets of markings. Just seems weird. The 1 on the LX side is different than the other side as it does not have a base to it. The LX side is also smaller. The LX side is pretty clean. I know I’ve stamped before and it was never that clean.
I was told it came out of a 65 Super Wildcat. Any help would be great.

P.S. let me know if I’m doing the photos wrong. Not sure if the thumbnail will expand to be able to see anything.

  2. carb numbers will be on the front bottom left edge of the carb and the front should be a 3645S, the number in the picture is incorrect but will show you where to find the numbers

Well the front carb is 3645SB and the rear is 3925SA.
Any thoughts on the spacing of the stamping at the valley pan.

  5. I've seen similar stuff in some of my older cars. The font and everything looks correct. What is the distributor number? If that's a factory dual quad distributor with the right date code chances very good this is an original Super Wildcat engine

It is still banded and is a Remy/Delco. I couldn't see the numbers to well. I'll check this evening after work. I've got the motor stuffed in a corner and will have to due some stretches before I can get myself back there. So many things, so little room.

The "5" denotes Wildcat. The 3925 denotes Auto trans. The distributor # should be 1111055.

It appears to be a true LX stamping to me.

I believe the distributor number should be 1111058. the number for a Single 4 barrel distributer is 1111055.

The "5" denotes 1965 model year. I believe the 9 after the H indicates it came from a Riviera.

  11. Wildcat GS

    Wildcat GS Wildcat GS

The "9" is the first number in the vin sequence after the model # and the year which as John states as 1965 which is correct. Both the Wildcats (except for the first 54 or so cars) and the Rivieras used the 900,000 vin sequence in 1965. Because the complete vin number which includes the model # is not stamped on the block, this block could be from a 1965 Wildcat or Riviera.

Thanks everyone for all of the info. The gentleman I purchased it from is a good guy and is well educated with 60s Buicks, but that goofy LX stamp had me a little concerned. The only concern now is what’s inside. I thought I read somewhere that the only red 425s were 1966. Mine is red but the valley pan has flaked and is traditional Buick turquoise (I know that’s not the real name for it.) underneath. The next task is to open it up and see what I’m working with and what others may have done. It’s like Christmas eve and the day before my parents get my grade school report cards on the same day. Excited and worried at the same time.

Can someone enlight me, please. What does the LX- thingy mean?

  16. LX is engine code designation for Super Wildcat aka 425 dual quad engine. i believe it was KX in 64 and Mx in 66

Yes, it's a real LX. The spacing is right, I have even seem them upside down. The 058 distributor is correct too.

Thanks DQ, if it ends up being in good shape it’ll work perfect for my project.

DONT throw the cam out..i know its used, but ive seen a bunch of wanted adds for an orig 2X4 cam...so...I wouldnt throw it away if you do a rebuild

that distrib is special too..people upgrade and give them away or pitch them..thats a very desirable distrib too....just sayin

ive owned 6 LX motors and the stamp is the same on all i have had..
