While looking down #8 hole after I had pulled the piston on my 401 I noticed a shiny spot on the crank throw. Upon further inspection I found that it had been hitting the oil pump (!). The short shaft of the pump gears has worked its way upward trying to escape it's duties. Has anyone seen this before?

That is an unusual problem on a "Nail". I have seen it happen mostly with the aluminum stock pumps. More common is when using ARP rod bolts hitting the pump. Must check & provide the nes. clearance.
