A buddy of mine just got real good coverage thru State Farm for a '71 Super Bee. He valued the car at 15,000, can drive it like 9,000 miles per year(to qualify for a Sunday driver), he's over 40, with a $250 deductible for $19 per mo. I haven't priced mine yet, so I don't know what it'll be.

    USAA

John - Are you military or ex-military? Is one of your parents? You may qualitfy for USAA. Call 1-800-531-8111 or see USAA.com. There are also a couple "antique" car insurance companies like Grundy, check Hemmings. They are good for low milage cars....

  6. Hagerty Ins.

I use Hagerty Insurance. They specialize in classic cars. I am paying just over $100/yr for $8000 coverage on my 68 GS350, with no annual mileage limits whatsoever. I haven't had to file a claim, but I got lots of good recommendations for them when I posted a similar question when I bought my 68. They do not need an appraisal, unless you request an agreed value that they think is higher than typical for your car. You do need to send them several photos of the car, of specific parts of the car. You are not supposed to use it for work transportation, but are not limited to only driving it to shows, car events, etc. It is covered while driving it for pleasure, unless all your pleasure comes at the track... try www.hagerty.com I applied online, they sent me forms, I mailed them back with pictures and a premium check. I raised my coverage from $7 grand to $8 grand this winter, and they did it, no questions asked. One comment they made when I inquired about increasing, was that if I requested more than a $5,000 increase, they would likely need new photos and an appraisal.

    GSXMEN Got Jesus?

A guy back in Binghamton insures (or at least did) all his Buicks with JC Taylor. I think he only pays about $100 a year/each. About the only 'catch' if you will, he has to provide proof of insurance for his daily driver - no big deal obviously!

in ontario, canada, when u apply for a new insurance policy, u are required to submit an appraisal (by an approved appraiser) . the insurable value is based on a percentage of the appraised value. this is called "agreed-upon value" . this is for classic car insurance & u cannot , nor would i , drive my 72 gs to work .
i am not sure about this , but have been told that i may need another appraisal to renew my insurance in 2004 .
there are very few insurance companies in ontario the will insure classic cars , i donot mean brokers , but actual insurance companies .
i also have a choice to have standard licence plates or antique/vintage plates on my car . vintage plates restrict when & where u can drive your car , but then again the cost is about $25 for these plates .

John, I also use Hagerty for insuring my 3 Buicks. I have agreed policies on all 3. I have my 78 Turbo Regal insured for 12k, my 87 Grand National for 20k, and my concours restored 70 GS has an agreed value of 70k. I had to provide documation of the awards that had been won and the amounts spent on the restoration. They are the best guys to deal with. All of this for 625.00 a year. They also automatically increase the value of the cars by 10% a year. I highly recommend them.

I have my GSX insured with J.C.Taylor also. I pay $125 per year for $25,000 value. The car must be in a locked garage and you also need proof of insurance for a daily driver. They are located in Upper Darby Pa.

    Hi John -

I have Hagerty, which as others can attest to, has excellent customer service and they offer agreed value policies (in addition to the 10% annual value increase). Very cool!

I just contacted American Collectors (for a rate comparison) and they told me I was allowed limited pleasure use. I told them I occasionally take a trip to the Jersey shore (about an hour drive). They told me I would be covered driving around my neighborhood, but if I went down the shore it was considered a 'Trip', and not a pleasure use drive. I would NOT be covered in the scenario. I guess this would also leave me uninsured for the BPG gatherings. This company dictates where I can drive??? WTF??? Be warned!!!

I just called Hagerty and I can drive my GS ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE I please (that's the true definition of pleasure use, right?). I used Bowling Green KY as an example destination and the representative told me I would ABSOLUTELY be covered ANYWHERE I drive, with the exception of a racetrack (a small price to pay).

She even told me to have a good time in KY (I wish I could go but alas other responsibilities have surfaced yet again).

Do your homework and ask a lot of questions. I still think Hagerty is the best.

Thanks for the info Marco so I went and re-read my policy. Heres how it reads, Section J-1 Your covered auto means a) primarily used for: exhibitions, club activities , parades, or other function of public interest.
So it would be covered for BPG activity. Good points to know. Wonder if that trip to Rita's Water Ice is covered???

    No problem Doug.

I used the Jersey shore as an example and the representative told me it was a 'trip', not pleasure use. Thats buffalo chips! I'd call them, anonymously of course, to verify. Now, instead of knowing you are definitely being covered, it becomes a matter of interpretation (which is BS IMHO). It seems you are at their mercy and it scares me when I hear stipulations like that. Please be careful.

I guess Rita's would be covered if it was around the corner from your house

PS - the rate quote was almost identical (maybe $10 less)

I'll look into Hagerty next year as I like being able to take the car where I want when I want. Just sent in my renewal check last week.:Dou:
