Has anyone replaced their worn original package tray and jute? I can't figure out how to do this without taking out the seat - (it won't budge).

I have a '71 GS. Is there an easier way? Thanks.:beer

You can't get the seat out? I think you have to take it out. Do you know how it comes out?

u have to push (dometimes very hard) the rear bottom seat inward at the bottom & then lift up. two bolts hold the back upper.

Seat has to come out to do this right.

    1. Put front seats all the way forward.

    2. Lay on your side on the floor in the back facing the rear of the car.

    3. Push like heck on the very bottom frame of the seat.

    4. Push the seat toward the back of the car until your guts bust.

    5. After you move the seat back about an inch, you will need to raise it up and pull it forward to clear the mounting clip.

    6. Repeat steps 2, 3, 4, and 5 for the other side of the car.

    7. Pull the seat bottom forward and out.

    8. Find and remove two 1/2" bolts holding the seat back in place.

    9. Lift up on the seat back to pop the seat loose from it's mounting clips.

    10. Remove tha seat back and now you can go to work on the package tray.

Thanks - is it just as bad to re-install the seat?

Just to add to what John said, becarful if the top is stubborn, resist the urge to pull out. You will bend the tabs and never get it back in. Pull straight up.

    Jamie,
I don't think it matters where you get it from. I think there is only one manufacturer.

    Hey Larry,

What type of tray do most guys get? There's a solid board piece then there's the mesh style (more expensive but nicer and with provision for speakers)

Get the "mesh" style....doesn't warp as easily as the solid style.

The package trays I got from OPG fit good....all I had to do was slightly trim the back corner radius on each side to make a snug fit. I used scissors and only trimmed about 1/4 from each corner...about 3" long. Easy.

The mesh wa stock on GS and the upper scale Skylark Customs. The cheaper cars got the cardboard.

my package tray came from legendary & i used the old package tray as a template, as some trimming was required.

So, to resurrect another old thread rather than start a new one. :)

Now that I have replaced my package tray and am ready to install the rear seat Alan Wander sold me like what seems like 10 years ago, how in the name of God do you install the rear seat bottom without getting a brain aneurism? The top is a no brainer.

I trimmed the carpet around the mounting tracks (new carpet) but still I can't get it to latch in.

What's the trick? I installed some non stock bubble roll insulation behind the rear seat top with a foil on both sides. Can't see spending 50 dollars for the repro. Anyway, could it be too thick? It's only like 3/8 or a quarter inch max and it can be compressed anyway.

I'm lost on this one. I knew they were a bitch, but I didn't expect it to be this bad.

Your seat frame rod that engages the seat anchor may be bent preventing you from get the seat in.......I have someone look at the rod while you are trying to install it.......see how close it is......should be about 1/2-1" to get it in the correct location.

Eat your wheaties in the morning and push with your legs to get the seat in the anchors.....yes, it is a bitch but it can be done.

From my experience, you may need 6 hands, one set on seat pushing down, 2pushing the seat in towards the trunk and 2 to take a hammer and long punch and tap on the round bar right where it that latches All at the same time, it may take a good quick hit? Or, bend the round bar down some more in the area that it latches? Some seats are too loose, the seat goes up and down when latched in, and some are tight like yours probably? good luck gord
