    Hello Nailheaders?!?
The question is.... what do I require to do to put a nailhead motor from a '62 Invicta into my '64 Skylark?
    Thanks in advance.

    Drew,
Am pretty sure you will need the block/frame/mount setup from a 65-66 Gran Sport to do this. Also, unless you can get headers, you will need the exhaust manifolds from one as well. Very pricey items if you can find them. They do show up on Ebay from time to time but...........$$$$$$$$$$$
Also, and you will need to check with someone else, I think the pre-1964 crankshaft has a different pilot hole dimension which may not fit later transmissions since it was designed for a Dynaflow.
I am not the expert on this, so ask around. Your best bet may be to look for a 400/430/455 to drop in. A much easier swap that I have done a few times.
    Just my 2 cents,
    Mark

    Drew,

If the 401 engine you want to use is earlier than 64, it fits the Dynaflow trans. The early 401 can be modified to fit the ST 300 or 400, but you will need a bushing, flexplate, and machining to the flexplate.

The ST 300 behind your current 300 engine will not fit the 401. You will need a ST 300 or ST 400 that fits the Nailhead. The Nailhead ST 300 will fit using your current driveshaft and transmission mount. The ST 400 is longer than the ST 300, but has 3 forward gears. It will require cutting the driveshaft a little for proper clearance, a ST 400 yoke and a ST 400 mount (300 mount can be modified).

The following will be needed from or for a 65-66 Skylark GS: frame pads, motor mounts, engine mounts, oil pan and pick-up tube (57-59 364 or 59 401 pan and pick-up will work as well), fan shroud, radiator (opposite your 300 radiator), front suspension springs, exhaust manifolds or headers and tranny lines (hook up on left side).

Accessory brackets, pulleys and a starter from a Nailhead will also be needed, but they are not specific to the 65-66 GS.
