Larry got me thinking about a new impact wrench. I was looking at his Dewalt and found it comes either way. Lots of opinions on the internet. What say you? Impact Wrench: Detent Pin or Hog Ring?

    docgsx It's not a GTX

I like my snap on with the hog ring. Socket never falls off.

The detent pin on the other hand… I have the worst luck with either keeping the socket on or, unable to get the pin to release to remove the socket.

Hog ring here. Eventually they wear out and you have to replace them, but it's better then pushing in the freakin' pin every time you put a socket on. Sometimes a guy HAS to use his impact on a chrome socket, and seems like the pin either doesn't lock into the little detent divot in the socket, or it does and you can't get the socket off to save your life.

Geez... kids stuff. On our Ingersoll-Rand 4 INCH drive jobs (yep, needed a hoist to move over one bolt) used a 1/4 rod through the socket with an O ring to retain it. The sockets, like maybe a 6 incher would hurt the toes even iffn' they were steel. ws
