Must have been a freebie.. :Dou:

In that case, I might suggest that the bushing fell off the stop pin.

Simple test.. take the distrib cap off, and see how far you can turn the rotor clockwise. If it's more than about 10*, the pin must have fallen off. There should be very little movement in the rotor, in the clockwise direction.

Feel free to yank it out and shoot it back to me, I can get it back in shape, no problem.. I will apply the "11 year" warrantee to it.. :eek2:

Ya, that's the issue... yank that sucker out and send it back. Use a medium priority box and mail it to

I don't need anything but the distrib.. take the cap off with the wires on it and just push it out of the way.

When you pull the distrib, make 2 marks.. on the timing cover, right at about 9'oclock as you look down at the distrib from the front, you will see a casting line in the timing cover, right at the base of the distrib. use that as a reference mark for the orientation of the distrib body.. make a mark on the base of the distributor right at that casting line.. and then mark the distrib where the cap goes on, where the rotor is pointing.

When you drop the distrib back in when you get it back, just line up the base mark with the timing cover, and if the rotor is pointing at your mark you made up where the cap goes on, then your good to go.

It should just drop right back in, all the way down.. disconnect the battery if there is any possibility someone might turn the engine over while it's out.

disconnect the distributor even if there is no possibility of someone turning over the motor. Ask me how I know.

    Todd,

It's on it's way back, everything was still in place in it, but I did limit the advance curve some more.

You should have it back on Monday or Tuesday. Drop it in and line up your dot, that will be close, then time it to 34* total from there.

Let us know how it works out for you.

How do you know? Sounds like a good story. Did a friend come by and "try to help"?
