So trying to figure out why my oil light flickers and goes on and off mostly when accelerating. Seems to have started after transmission rebuild. I know shouldnt have anything to do with it. I do have a guage also that connects at hole above oil filter. Also where is the light connected to so i can check the connection. Its not where my guage is connected. The engine is a remanufactured one that i have owned for 8 years but haves less than 10000 miles. 71 skylark 455

Does the gauge vary? If not, connection to light has to be loose or wire pinched somewhere.

Ok dumb question where does factory light connect.

When you say vary do you mean steady? If so it is steady until a change when accelerating.

Does the pressure drop to low on the gauge between shifts?

Will have to check that later today. Its an automatic also.

What would that mean if it did drop between.

    Not a dumb question. :)

Passenger side of block above the oil pump housing.

If you have a gauge connected there, is it electric or oil line?

You will need to "trace" the light wire to see where it is connected to the block. (dark green wire).

(it is remotely possible the wire is not connected, but is making contact/grounding, completing the circuit .)

When you are driving, then stop at a traffic light, does the pressure drop?

I actually have one. What i dont understand is the only thing i have connected to the threaded hole above where the oil filter sits is a copper line to guages. I have read about teeing off at that point for a light and guage but i only have a guage connected there. When i get home i will trace from the light to see where it goes .

Thanks for all suggestions. Hope the wire is grounding somewhere. Just need to trace the wire

That's exactly what is happening. The idiot light sender supplies a ground to turn the light on. Whoever installed the gauge probably left the wire swinging in the breeze and it is intermittently grounding on something metal. If you want the gauge and the light to work, use a brass fitting tee. There are a number of ways to do that.

Oil pressure light wire should be dark blue,

Thank you Larry, I had water and oil wire colors mixed up in my old man brain.

Thanks very much to everybody . The blue wire along with others had worked its way to the manifold and melted the insulation so bare wire and grounding was the problem. Glad it wasnt an oil pressure issue$ :).

    Glad you found it. :)

Where would the factory sending unit join with this setup?
