I have a 67 Buick Skylark with a bent axle. Looking for a replacement, I have found 66 and 67 had different axle lengths. Am now suspecting I have a 66 rear end in my 67. Anyone know how I can find out for sure? Any and all thoughts appreciated! Thanks Bob.
It's been said the width was increased sometime in 1966 or 1967. 64-66 rears have a flat pad to mount the spring to, and use a bolt and retainer plate to hold spring in place. 1967 has a pad with a raised center to fit inside the end of the spring, no bolt required. Monaz has replacement axles for the 64-66 here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/222217681160?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT These are 29.25" from wheel mounting surface to end. See the pic in the auction on how to measure. What does your '67 axle measure?
If you have the axle shaft out, measure it from the face of the wheel flange,to the end. Best thing to do is run a tape through one of the access holes in the wheel flange, and measure to the other end.
OK, so they are longer than the earlier ones that are 29-1/4". Maybe the 67-70 axles are what you need (?) BTW, Skylark axle is different than a GS/Sportwagon.... different diameter and therefore different wheel bearings.
Do you see a part number in your wheel bearing,or can you mic the outer diameter? I have a few spare shafts for the RW507CR bearing, but I need to check on the others.
Don't have a mic, but from all the help I have learned where to measure on the axle. So, I guess if I just order a bop axle the same length & same number of splines I should probably be okay. Thanks for all the help everyone! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Yes. I would just order a pair. They are a better material than the OEM. If you need any more assistance, let me know.
