All the 'stang guys and gals as well as full size mid 60s Fords showed up for Ford day at Los Angeles country Raceway. A good friend of mine was running his car and invited me up for the day. At 99 degrees and a slight dry wind, the track was probably at around 5500 feet. I often tell my friend about the 3500 plus GS cars that run 10s on gas only. Well he pointed out a 'stang that runs high 8s on gas only, no supercharger. Most amazing. I took some ribbing on that one. Next he introduced me to a friend who is running a 89 stang with a turbo charged 398 cubic inch motor. Well here's the kicker, first time out of the box, 7.70 at 177 miles an hour. No jucie either. Norman let me look the car over real good. It's a killer and the turbo charging system is home built with the exception of the extremely large turbo itself. Theres two points to this story, 1, he runs the air inside the car to the passenger side where he literally has an ice box. The air is cooled and then dumped to the engine. 2. He and a friend have built this car from the ground up. It's nice to see that home engineering is alive and well and it t'aint no Chubby and it t'aint no import.:Brow:
