Wouldn't it be just nifty if we heard from the other party rather than their spokesperson?

As a shop owner I know all to well what you are going through. In my early years I made some mistakes as a shop owner that may just parallel this shops situation.... or not. Who knows.

Biggest mistake I made was never saying NO to new customers and current ones. Plus never having a written contract that broke it all down.

As any business we like to get paid weekly for services rendered. I've had 5 vehicles all sitting outside in different stages of completion because customers running into financial hardships. When this happened I always searched for my next pay check. I had 4 guys working for me and they all needed to be paid. So I took next paying customer. Only after contacting current ones. So I could pay my guys weekly. THEN out of blue a week or 2 into new job, 2 of my current customers have money again and want there cars done. Only problem was, when asked to come in and pay off current bill they'd show up but see I'm working on somebody elses car. In their eyes WTF! I didn't blame them because they don't know my current situation financially. So after a little explanation they kind of understood. All fine and dandy.... so I'd take what's owed and then split guys up to work on 3 vehicles at once so everyone's happy. While im still managing the walk ins and phone calls.

With everyone split up between 3 vehicles the work/production slowed down. Thus causing troubles with my current good paying customer. Then im trying to make up excuses to try and belittle the situation, but I know they now have sour taste in there mouth from my BS. Which is understandable. I tried to keep the peace but it was hard.

For me it was a vicious cycle of trying to keep money flowing and employee's paid. Especially out in the middle of no where. Where I might be getting $35 an hour back then to do the work.

I was always trying to figure out how to keep everyone happy... only causing the stress to build and my health and desire to work dam near non existent. Thus causing more hardships all because i couldnt say NO.

Looking back I'm thankful for all those experiences even though very stressful I learned so much.

So not to be little your situation because you do have a large sum of money invested, It could be possible he has to many irons in the fire just trying to keep everyone happy. Even though your a good paying customer it is possible that he had back burner Jobs that are now paying. They could be hounding him to get back onto their cars. Which in turn, like me, spread my shop so thin. Again i don't know his current situation at all. Just telling you what happened to me.

Either way I wish the both of you the best and hope this gets resolved peacefully.

My "6 week", pretty much stock rebuild, on a sbb turned into more than a year of every excuse under the sun. I finally got my motor back. I will never give this particular shop any other business.

How do people become this unscrupulous?

Went through this with my Stage 1 back in 1990 saw the writing on the wall, got the car out in a year and only got taken for $5K. Feel bad for you man...

Man, this is a Charlie Foxtrot of biblical proportions. Stories like this are why I'm scared to get my cars painted.

You guys have to take a step back. Collectively we have to stop acting as the judge, the jury and the executioner with these types of threads. Half this board likely hates this business with no real factual reason to.

The circumstances are vague and told by one side. Obviously there is much more to this than what has been disclosed.

It's a well known reputable shop. Why are they not responding? Could be they know better than to get involved in bickering on the internet.

To the OP- want to see results? Forget posting your complaints on this site. Go to the shop with a truck and trailer and take your car back. Period.

The big problem is this happens all to often and pushes people out of our car community for good ...

This is so true looking at it from both directions.
I'm very Thankful I still talk with all my customers. Now a 36 year veteran in the business I'm glad I'm finally getting out of it.

Hope all works out well for everyone.

Sorry I'm late to this thread. Where are you located in Canada? I work a few days a week at my buddy's resto shop i Windsor Ontario. We have done a full resto on a car from Tennessee. Should be no problem getting that car back here once hopefully this whole mess can get cleared up. We did a real nice 70 GS just a couple years ago. Not trying to do a selling job here. Just want to offer our help in anyway if we can. Good luck and feel free to contact me for any info.
