Got the 1974 455 bored to .040" with forged pistons and a small CC 1970 pair of heads and a balnced mass with a 4 speed going into my 1964 Skylark.

I bought a used Schneider cam with Rhodes lifters, but the cam is as hot as you can go with hydraulics. Probably to the point of low vacuum for the power brakes. Just looking around for a decent used Stage 1 or a bit better cam. If anyone wants a sharp increase, trades are encouraged! Bill in TR Please PM me on V8 as I dont get down this far from the bench too often.

My suggestion is to keep the cam and ditch the power brakes. It will be way more fun that way! :)

I don't know what your cam is but I ran this one in my previous '67 GS w/462 Stage1 motor on the street with just a vacuum reservoir. I drove that car all over the place and had no brake problems at all.

    Product ID: TA_510-455

Picked up the block and all the goods from Terry's today and he hooked me up with a cam thats a few steps hotter than a Stage I cam. The other one was about the most radical hydraulic cam he's ever seen. Its available for what Ive got into it if anyone is interested. Schneider, the grinder, recommends 10:1 compression as a minimum. Maybe at a later date, I can toss it in for grins. Right now the object is to get this guy running again.

So tomorrow is wash day, and take some measurements, like checking ring gaps etc. Stuff I never take for granted. I have a good friend that works at Federal-Mogul chrome plating their rings and you shout hear the horror stories. Thats another chapter LOL.

So I have the rings and bearings. Terry got me a rather good deal on all that stuff. He said he could beat any motor parts store $$$ and he werent lying! I still need to get gaskets, push rods, timing chain and gears, and especially, A REAR SEAL. I dont mind trimming one to fit, so whats the consensus on that? I just read Jim W.'s thred on it but whats the part number for the BOP seal? Remember guys, I AM ON A BUDGET... I was born a poor, poor....

The heads were OK, but needed all new intakes, The exhausts were salvageable. New 300# springs and a few guides and seats. The push rods had the snot run outa them with the nylon buttons mostly sheared off; well 9 of them anyway.

This is going to be an exercise in futility guys. The days of "Open Checkbook" are long gone, so please bear with me:eek:. ws
