But...Is it junk? The rust has been removed since the picture was taken, but there's that ding in the spindle right by the outer wheel bearing surface. And I already have the 3/4-20 die for the threads.

It's kinda odd that the only aftermarket spindles for the 2nd gen Camaro are a 2" drop. You'd think being a Camaro SOMEONE would repro them in the stock height.

It's $140 for a used one, just hoping to save it.

Judging by the pic, I'd say your buying a new spindle too.

That bearing surface needs to be smooth and not pitted. If not, I'd imagine the bearing will be noisy as anything and will probably get eaten up. Do a test- take the outer wheel bearing and fit it to the spindle and roll it. If it doesn't roll smoothly, you got your answer

Id say clean it up and run it. The bearing does not spin on the spindle or shouldn't. Now if you sand that down and the inner race of the bearing is all sloppy and lose fitting replace it.

Exactly right Briz, the bearing doesn't ride on the spindle, it rides on the race...duh. I should know better. That's what I get for posting at 6:50AM

Yeah, I tried to take it easy, I used 220 just to knock it down flush. It's not perfect, but it looks ok. I'm going to fix the threads tomorrow and see how the bearing fits.
