When you see what Adam went through you'll understand why I suggested trying what I did first. At least on your car you have enough room to take out your governor without having to drop the rear of the tranny. Riv's have an "X" frame that gets in the way, I can only imagine the grief I would have had taking that gov in and out numerous times.

In response to your question, the primary weights are heavier and it would be hard to confuse them with the secondary weights. I wouldn't change the springs because you are right, they affect other shift points. When you consider that you'll have to lay out about $45 for a gov re-calibration kit and a lot of screwing around, at least if trimming the weights like I suggested doesn't work you still have that option anyway.....or just put your original gov back in. :bglasses:

The weights in the picture are before and after, correct?
Did you use a bench grinder or what?

Yes, the photo is before and after........and I used a bench grinder. What you could do is color where you want to grind with a majic marker, then scribe a line to mark where you want to grind to. I used spray tool and die maker's ink and measured with my dial caliper's to make the marks so they would be even. It's not that critical but I'm fussy. As long as you remove enough weight is all that matters. The weights in the B&M kit are shaped somewhat like how those look after I ground them. :bglasses:

    Tim,
Like I said, there is no shortcut to this. It is time consuming. Trial and error. It is extremely unlikely that you will get lucky like Joe did. The kit only comes with inner weights. The outer weights are much heavier. If you have the kit, and a governor side by side, it is very obvious how things go together. Take your time. Making 2 or more changes at the same time will make you crazy. Change one thing at a time, then evaluate the result. The weights will get you close to where you want to be. The springs will fine tune things. Yes the springs will/can effect both shift points, sometimes they only effect 1. If you want a 5500 shift point, you might try getting to 5300, or 5400, then try a spring change.

Tim......I just thought I would mention that although my 1-2 shift point is 5500, today I took it up to the 2-3 full throttle shift point. It happened at 80 MPH, and I briefly glanced at my tach, it appeared to be somewhere in the 5,000 RPM range. I would prefer it to be higher, but that's OK by me. I usually don't drive that fast to worry about it. I did notice though that it will downshift up to about 68 MPH, about 5 MPH faster than before I made the changes. The 1-2 is actually all that I care about, and I'm not about to play with a $45 bag of springs.

If you want perfect results, do what Larry said. :bglasses:

Larry, car shifted stock at 4,500 1-2 and 2-3. I got my B$M kit and I changed one weight to #3, now my 1-2 is at 6,000 and 2-3 is at 5,500. I am pretty close since I want both shifts at 5,500 ,so I am asking you what do you think I should try next so I can hopefully eliminate a few steps???
    Thanks
    Tim
