Came home from work one day last yr and had a kitten in the back of my work van. I know which house he came from and they didnt want him back. They had 7 others just like him. Turned out to be a pretty good cat and he hunts better than any of the others.

  2. Beautiful kitty. Has she let you know what her name is?

She's being pretty tight lipped about it. She's soooo affectionate. You just go near her and she gets so excited your going to pet her. I wonder what her story is.

About 10 more ticks dropped off her since we brought her back. So the total is over north of 60 so far. I hate those things:rant:

Good for you Jason! :TU:We've had several dumped on us over the years & kept them all.My fave was this lil guy "Skittles",because he was so skiddish when we got him.I was under one of my Buicks one day & he passed by very slowly.I looked to see why & he was dragging a dead grouse twice his size.:eek2: He went missing one night, owl or coyote probably got him.

Sorry I am no cat person but maybe Jason is trying to make amends for all those 100.00 GS's he has wrangled. I had a dog that staggered up to me in the alley one day. I found over 250 ticks on him and a trip to the vet ( they did not charge me for the visit or medicine since I was trying to rescue her) Anyway after we got her to eat and 3 flea and tick baths, a friend adopted her. Then they moved to Chicago

Things are going good. "Custer" is eating voraciously and drinking water. For a skinny cat, she eats like a horse. She seems more alert and less wobbly today. 10-12 more ticks fell off of her. And the concept of "litter box" has caught on. There are regular deposits, so whats going in is going out. Thats a plus.

Funny- If you stop petting her, she meows. Its a scraggly meow if any sound actually comes out. If you continue to ignore her, she starts pawing your hand until you start petting her again.

awesome, we have 3 cats, Misty is the oldest at 11, my wife brought her home from a small local pet store to replace hers that had run away, within 24 hours this little white "princess" claimed me as hers and to this day she waits for me at the door to come home, sleeps on my pillow at night and in my chair or lap all other times. a year later she got a shelter kitten since she still didn't have a cat and picked this tiny grey and white kitten that is still for sure hers, she ain't tiny anymore....her fat cat(Natalie, nicknamed Fatalie now) is over 30 pounds now. then a little over 5 years ago we were at our local Books-a-million out on the patio drinking coffee and chatting with friends like we did every Saturday night when I see a little gray tabby kitten come out of a hole in the wall there, long story short after a couple weeks he lives here now( he took to me right away that first night at the book store, even letting me pet his tummy, and only me) and he is now a big boy for sure, not fat but can stand on his hind legs and touch a light switch, he plays fetch, comes when you call him and many other awesome things and we are lucky to have him he likes everyone especially my 5 year old daughter, he took to her the day we brought her home, slept outside her door in front of the baby gate for the first couple years too. We named him Wallace as an homage to his former home!
Here they are in order from left to right, Wallace, Fatalie and Misty

Jason, good to hear Custer is doing well.

    Cool cats Kurt.

Over the years we have fed lots of strays and Beth names them all, Mr Black, Little Black, Stubby (almost no tail), Spatzy (looked like he was wearing Spatz shoes), Droopy (his ears were folded over), Trouble (she is the next door neighbors cat named Daisy), Butternut, Zha Zha (a beautiful white persian with a diamond collar), Vinny, and Jet (he hits 4th gear as soon as he sees you).

Here is a good story about Zha Zha. Beth named "her" after Zha Zha Gabor and we knew she was someones pet. She was real domesticated but if she wanted to hang out in our backyard with our 2 cats Annie & Lizzy, that was fine with us. We found out from a neighbor that the cats's real name was Blake. (So much for Beth's ability to tell male/female cats apart.)

Anyway the town I live in is only 3 by 4 blocks long and has an e-mail service that contacts everyone in town if needed. We get this e-mail that the cats owner is looking for "Blake AKA Zha Zha" (they knew the cats alias) and want to know if anyone has seen him. Beth contacts the lady, who lives 1 block over, and later that day she comes and collects her cat. Three days later shes back in my yard, but she would go home from time to time.

Years ago we had a female tabby who had perhaps the most bizarre habit I have ever seen in a four-legged animal. If she was standing and wanted to head in the opposite direction from which she was facing, she would stand on her front legs and swing her rear end around and head off. She had no physical problems that would have caused this behavior. She would also shake hands.

My cat Diesel wandered into the bus garage at work, very emaciated and looking like a housecat. I adopted him and we've had him for three plus years now, and he still follows me around and rubs up against my legs. I think they do realize when you took them away from a bad situation.

I am sure of this! all three of mine are indoor cats, Wallace has had a couple opportunities to escape including once a few weeks after he came home, one of the doors in the house didn't close all the way and blew open, it was open for well over an hour, he was still inside just as happy as can be. He'll look out the front door when it's open but then just turns around and goes back into the living room, it's like he remembers living in that hole in the wall!

Good story Duane, a couple years ago we had a kitten show up here, I was real careful about not naming him since if I name then I tend to keep them, a friends adult daughter was babysitting for us while we went to a hot rod/motorcycle show and our friend (Michelle) brought her daughter lunch and saw the kitten, I get a text that says "Michelle wants the kitten" they knew about it before as well as my refusal to name it, the next day she came and got him and I sent her a text before she even left my street, one word "Seamus" , and that is his name to this day!

When I got ill and couldn't keep up the ranch anymore, we had to sell & move into town ( sucks ) - The lady that bought the prop. took all of our mini horses as part of the deal but would not take our 2 Border Collie / Mc Nabb brothers cause they kept trying to herd her horses! ANYway, my daughters BF at the time lived on a ranch so we took the dogs there- worked out fine, but when I'd go to feed the dogs there were always a ton of feral barn cats around begging for food too. Fastforward a few years- daughter and BF are no more, Dogs are still there ( BF's Dad & I are good friends now ) and I make a trek out daily to feed EVERYBODY.:dollar::dollar::dollar: I get vouchers from the county for free spay/neuter and keep workin the gang, but some newcomer always gets the word about free chow and rewards me with kittens! I've adopted more than I should- one is passed out at / on my side now as I tap away:Comp: & 3 others are near. I've lost count of how many have been placed. I now work with a non profit group called "companions in waiting" to keep finding homes for the ones that can be tamed. Last count was 14 pairs of beady little eyes watching the can opener.... Its my therapy- I cant do all the car stuff I want to anymore, and the greetings I get and seeing them all healthy and sleek, and remembering the ones who have gone on to have a "human of their own" :laugh:that they allow to live with them, makes me feel like I'm doing something good that would otherwise go completely overlooked/unknown- these colonies are everywhere....

For anyone whose interested- I found a company ( I scoffed at first ) that sells health care insurance for pets. After they forked over $1200 for a cat ( feral rescue pet ) that was hit and runned with a weeks old policy I wasnt laughing. They are called Tru-Panion and they've done well by me- its about 25/30 bucks / month for a cat depending on age & such dogs are a bit higher- the vet at the emergency animal hospital really likes them- she said they are one of few that actually pay, and I believe...I've had several claims and I always get a check promptly.

Sorry to bend your-alls ears! Good Luck Jason...she'll be allowing you to share your bed with her very soon!:TU:

Just an update on Custer. She's doing good and improving daily both physically and mentally. No more %^$%# ticks! But she's all itchy from the bites! She has put some weight on and filled out a little. She really is a very affectionate cat and is so docile. I even tried pushing the limits a little just to see what her breaking point is- she doesnt have one. This cat has yet to bite me, scratch me or even give me a cross look! :Dou: She is becoming my new little buddy. She plants herself wherever I am. She's sitting next to me as I type this.

Funny- I tried taking her outside just so she can get some air and play in the grass. She wanted no part of it, ran in the house and hid. I guess shes an inside cat!

We have had medical insurance on our Shepherd for years. It has worked well. He has been healthy, but has had dental issues. Dog teeth are even more expensive then Human teeth. The insurance has not covered it all, but has made a significant dent in the bills.

Wanted to post a one year update. Cant believe its a whole year. Time flies.

Custer is a healthy and happy little girl. The cold nights in the woods all alone with no food are a distant memory. She went from 4.5 lbs when we got her, to 8.5 lbs. Shes got a little layer of fat on her now! Theese days, Custer spends her days sleeping by the window and playing with her toys. Shes never far from a food bowl or a clean litter box. She is the sweetest little girl and fit right into the fold. Most cats are a little iffy with other cats in the household. Not Custer, she took to our other cat immediately. So much so that she got all "Single White Female" on her. She must of come from a multiple cat house.

Most of the time she flops over next to me and rolls on her back so I can pet her belly. She's an early riser too. At 6:30am she sits next to my head and purrs. Its like a truck idling next to me. If I dont wake up, I get a gentle paw on my face. If that doesnt do it, I get a little forceful reminder. If that still doesnt do it, I feel the claws ever so gently against my cheek. Its sooo funny!

Anyway, all is well with her.

So much fur in that picture it almost looks like two cats, though one seems a little scraggly. :pp Great to know she's adapted well. Tons of respect to people that rescue helpless animals. More people need to do that.

Here's our menagerie that we adopted a couple years ago. This may be the only picture ever to be taken with all three in the same area. The dog (80 lbs.) is afraid of the big cat (20 lbs.), the big cat gets bullied by the little (8 lbs.) cat, but they all act like best buds when it's time for treats.
