That what I call it when you get a cat dumped in your lap! So Jennifer's girlfriend calls her on Sunday. I overheard something about a stray cat in the park. I didnt ask, i was almost afraid to. Anyway, we head out to dinner. We get home to the phone ringing. Its Jen's friend. She says, "you didnt get my message?". Nooooo.....why? (as I start to cringe) "oh, I dropped off the cat in your tack room". Wonderful. ou: So we go take a look. Female calico. She was dehydrated and literally skin and bones. We set it up with some food, water and a littler box for the night. The cat is wobbly and a real sweetheart. She wanted to climb on my lap. Next day we bring it to our vet. The vet take over 50 ticks off the poor thing. Turns out the cat is approx 8 years old and was more than likely dumped in the park (people suck) . I cant imagine she was in there more than 2 or 3 weeks. Probably a house cat and not a very good hunter. Obviously someones cat. Feral cats arent as docile and trusting as she is. She tested negative for FIV/ FIP. She got a bath, fluids, food and blood tests. So far the "free" cat has cost me over $500. Cat is still at the vet pending the result of one more blood test. I'll be happy if the final bill is under a grand. I guess we can use a good barn cat. Remind me to thank Jen's friend!
That's nice of you! I feel bad for any pet that gets abandoned. At first I thought you said a cat dumped in your lap!!
Jason, Here is our feral stray, he has part of an ear missing and 1 eye is marled. At first he would run as soon as he saw one of us but he lets me pick him up now. Beth named him Vincent after Vincent Van Gogh, because of his ear. Anyway I understand where you are coming from. The problem is we feed anything 2-footed or 4-footed that shows up at the back door. I get a lot of enjoyment from the little guy, he even sits with me when I'm working in the garage. Good luck with your new addition. Duane
You are a good person, for sure. This story has a happy ending but makes you wonder about "humans." http://www.edmontonsun.com/2013/04/...ow-up-for-adoption-at-edmonton-humane-society
:TU::beers2::bglasses: for you. :blast: for the sub-human slime that dumped her. A special place reserved for them in the afterlife, ray: after a painful transition thereto. :spank: BTW all calicos are female. And, after years painstakingly assembling that impressive collection of Tri Shield GS's and Rivieras, perhaps it's only fitting you finally get to add a "wild cat." Congratulations!
Sounds like how we got my old cat Tigger, abyssinian/orange tabby mix. My mom picked her up on her way back from walking me to elementry school, lived to be 18 years old (indoor house cat, such a pampered life) that cat never let us forget how much she appricated being given a 2nd chance on life. Only cat I've ever met that never hissed, bit or swatted me. :TU:
Currently my wife and I have a pointer, a pit bull, a calico cat--all 'found' us. We have had several rescue cats take up with us; all seemed grateful for the care. We have a stray tomcat trying to take up with us, he has a name and a box in the garage. Free animals never are but they try the hardest to pay you back. You're a good person for helping her. Patrick
Doo-Wayne, it looks like you and that cat have the same hairdo. No wonder he likes you !
P.S., last night my 11 year old grandaughters tappy "Sherbert" got hit by a car. Two broken legs and possble internal injuries. She is in the vets care as we speak and my grandaughter is beside herself. She's been calling her father in between classes asking about updates on Sherberts condition. Hope the cat makes it....hope my son makes it when he gets the bill. :eek2:
Ron, You think Vinny looks like me, well my mustache is the same color. Here is a better pic of him. Duane
OK, back from the vet. The news is that she tested positive for Feline coronavirus. From what the vet told us, its a virus that will probably remain benign all of her life. In som cases though, it mutats into something called FIP which is a death sentence. She also has elevated kidney levels which could be a result of her depleted condition or it could mean something more nefarious. Her condition could also be the result of a wasting disease. So basically, the vet said if she starts gainming weight, thats a good sign and we're in the clear. If after a week or two shes still not gaining weight and is still wobbly, its bad news as in she's probably not going to make it. So...we'll hop for the best and cross our fingers. She ate a little something and is knocked out on the couch downstairs. She's "guarding" thousands of dollars in Buick parts down there! In the interim, I have to come up with a name. All I came up with is "Stinky". Which is what she was when she showed up. here are a couple of pics. Im going to put up an ad in the local craigslist just in case. I hope she wasnt dumped in the park because she was sick or peed on something. Anyway, heres a couple of pics of the patient-
Just when you got rid of me. . .enter Stinky. You'll never get a break. And Rocco wants to know why you're using his nickname ??
We had a stray wander into our backyard a few years ago, the little fella wouldnt leave, and we have two dogs. We ended up taking him in, hes my buddy now, he wont leave me alone! Plus he loves messing with the dogs:bla:
