I finally bought some motivation.

  1. At my wife's urging I went out and attacked the donor GS today. Body is ready to be lifted but those pesky rear trunk body mounts are giving me grief because both captured nuts broke and are just spinning. All the other body mount bolts came out relatively easily.

From running driving car to parts was 2 hours. 20190608_131331.jpg 20190608_111418.jpg

More like SUDDEN IMPACT! You using hand tools or air? I ran into way more than rusted bolts on the rear spring pads (64 only) and had to cut them off with a grinder... what a mess! Good luck!

Why come the donor? Frame bad?? ws

  5. I used a dewalt cordless impact where possible. the car is a donor because the floor pans are rusted badly and the rear end is compacted due to being rear ended. the GS is donating stuff to the white Special.

I like to drill a small hole over the top of body mounts in the trunk and soak them with penetrating oil for a few days. Seems to reduce the spinning body bolt syndrome.

  8. since I'm not worried about damaging the body I'm just going to cut the sheet metal above the captured nuts with a hole saw and put some heat to them and then use vice grips to hold them

Are you gonna keep everything or part some of it out? ws

  10. I have no need for 4 extra fenders, extra GS hood, 2 extra doors, extra core support.. yadda yadda yadda. so i'm gonna have a big ol Buick garage sale.

Some rusty floors and a hit in the rear and the car is scrap? A GS at that.. That's just normal old car stuff.. What am I missing here?

  13. it's me for sure. but in my defense all the parts I removed are put away and the driveway is back to normal

Not a jab at you at all. I'm that neighbor too.
Probably why I was laughing when I made that.

  15. I laughed as well. didnt take it as a jab at all.

  16. I've been playing with this stuff long enough to know when something is a losing proposition and that describes this car correctly. in the Buick hobby, reproduction and even used original parts are so hard to come by that some cars must die so others can be saved. this is that type of situation

    Kudos to your wife!!!

I'll take everything! I can meet you halfway, which would be somewhere around Nebraska! LOL!

If you want to rebuild/restore the frame and suspension, doing the GS chassis up and swapping the Special body onto it is one option, IF the GS parts are in good shape. And that will allow you to drive the Special during the summer.
On the other hand, the boxed frame has value to a GTO guy
