I run 3.73'a behind my home built 2004r, behind my 455. To me, perfect union of all. In OD, even with the 3.73's it is perfect, does not lug when locked up.

Agree. With the gear you have just run the 400 and get a nice converter. With the 200 you should use a gear around 3.5 or so. I run a 3:73 with a 28 inch tire. Most of us with the 200 run somewhere around there.

Will bolt to the block and should be close with the cross member where the th400 is. You'll need a torque converter and a different yoke on the drive shaft. Might need the shaft length adjusted. Also need a tv cable setup and brackets to the carb. And if you are going lockup converter a way to control that.

I would like a OD in the deuce cause it still runs a good 2000-2200 rpm (gussing) or so at 65. The rpms seem to high for it to have the 2.56 gear, so its either the 2.73 or 3.05. So if I end up building this 200 I will need to find another gear set. That could be a problem because I read that in 70 buick used 4? different rear ends and 2 of them they don't make aftermarket gears for. It has a posi and it sounds like a difficult task locating a suitable 3rd member.

You don't need OD, 2000-2200 at 65 is perfect. Leave it alone, you'll be spending lots of money to get 600 HP.

Get up with monzaz at jdrace.com he might have what you need for a gear change.

Im glad I asked about it, because I realized for me the price difference for 500 hp to 600hp is around $3000. I am going to aim for a more reasonable 500hp. That will also help keep the torque down low and overcome the rear gearing. The 400 will work in the meantime. Maybe at a later date I can consider swapping rear gears or the trans. Thank you guys for your advice and keeping me from doing something stupid :TU:
