Take a look and see if you can guess whats wrong with this picture. These are the two wires that go to the battery stud of the starter-

I see raw copper at previous splices next to each other which could arc and bad stuff happens !

Looks like smaller wire was spliced into heavier wires.

    Bypassed the fusible link?

Winner winner chicken dinner. Yeah, whoever owned the car or worked on it, cut the fusible links out. So if the car experienced a short circuit, it would of been ugly. The car would of likely burned to the ground

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

I just learned that you need not waste tape, or shrink sleeve, to cover the entire bare connection. I'd be afraid to look under the dash if the same 'mechanic' touched anything under it.

Whoever did this repair used about a half a roll of electrical tape. The yellow "R" wire was spliced. How you may ask? The two wires were twisted together and taped up.

I had done some electrical work on my friend's Cutlass. The guy ho owned that car must of been an electrician. The whole car was full of wire nut connections. I was actually surprised when I didn't see any junction boxes under the dash
